I finally got my hands on a ford 4 speed top loader transmission.
I got it from the same guy I got the Cleveland from. He didn’t need it anymore so he sold it to me below average price. I might get my hands on a cast aluminum bell housing soon.
I can’t believe how much progress I’m making on my car this year. It’s so much easier to buy parts for my Cleveland too.
I believe my 427 was holding me back.
Here’s the kicker… it’s a big block top loader. I can just buy a small block input shaft later. It’s no big deal.

congratulations, I hope... I wish I could tell you about the transmission... alas I have only played with small blocks and the one and only Cleveland was in the back of my car... mid-engine as they say...

Ford Pantera?

I’m confident that if I can keep this pace up. I will have my 68 Torino moving under its own power by November. Not complete or road legal. But running. My friends and mechanic can’t believe how fast everything is coming together.

Glad to see you focusing on a project that brings you satisfaction especially after the speed bumps you have encountered in your life.

Yeah, those speed bumps were so bizarre and came out of nowhere. But everything has been working out wonderfully for my project for the last few months. That 427 FE was holding me back. I wish I never went big block.

Yes... mine was a 1972 DeTomaso Pantera... it was a dream that became a nightmare... stupid stuff broke almost every time I drove it for 5 years... frustrating ownership experience... so much happier with my 1967 Mustang Fastback...

The 10 bolt top loader (close ratio, NASCAR) with the 9" rear gear all hooked up to the FE mill is a ticket to lots of fun. I sold my 69 Torino Cobra a couple years ago to an old high school buddy in TN. I just was not driving it so I let it go. 428CJ. With the engine oil cooler and dual filters an oil change got pretty expensive but that's not why I sold it.

Saying good by to the old girl.

I bet that car was a blast to drive!
I’m hoping to pass down my Torino one day to my children if I ever have some.

I bought a 69 RoadRunner, 383/4 speed when I was in flight school and would take it to the track in Dothan after VN. It ran in F Stock and so did the 428 CJ. I usually could win a couple races until I came up against a Torino which also was in F Stock. Ford was under rating that motor then and they would always eliminate me. I knew then I had to have one.

When was this?
