Update to coke bottle grips. Just got possession of my pre 29 smith and Wesson 44 mag. They do not have matching serial numbers on them they don't even have a date on them .

I didn't start seeing dated grips until the 1970s-1980s.

Yes that about right my 686 no - has them dated 1985 . It just my ffl said there where matching numbered to the fire Arm but they have no numbers at all.

Very nice Pre-29!
These are so desirable because they are so well made and conceived as to be of exceptional utility and beauty. The finger grooves on the grips are very subtle and indicative of the good taste (and skills) of the former owner. This is entirely different than bubba work.
I like how the grooves taper off towards the checkering border and do not touch beyond that point.
Your new S&W is in the enviable state that it can be admired for it's nice state of condition, yet still taken out to be enjoyed.
