Well, the long wait is over! I picked up my 9mm Shield today. I've been on the wait list since October 30th. Haven't time to take it to the range yet, but I got it all cleaned up, mags are loaded and I am ready to go.:D

Bravo for you, when the gun first came out I was second on the list at my LGS and I took 5 weeks to get a 40 caliber shield you are lucky and hope you feel the same there are Shield hungry all over the nation that do not even have one so shoot yours and enjoy it while those starving for a Shield sit around and don't have the sublime pleasure of owning one like you and myself!

I'm going to shoot mine in the morning have 200 flawless rounds through it so far, I called my LGS and academy for 2 months just wanting to hold one and was unsuccessful, I called my LGS one weekend 2 months ago when they were running an advertised sale asked him if they had any shields he says yes we actually came across a good lot of them and have 10 in stock!, told the wife hey we gotta make a trip across town. I almost got an XDS cause I was unable to put a shield in my hands, glad I waited I'm an XD fan but the shield is a better value to me plus I like the extra capacity.

I finally got my Shield 9 that S&W had to replace one of my .40s (it was a lemon). The LGS around here starting to get them in, when I picked mine up they had 7 more, he had not started calling the people on the waiting list yet. The gun store I picked mine up from said they are not ordering .40s. I saw two more 9s at the pistol range, I got same statement from them, no .40s, customer complaints. Oh well, I have two 9s and one .40 and they have been flawless. Your going to love the Shield. If you like the feel of the grip, try the rubber Talon Grips, even sweeter :)

I think you are really going to dig this gun. I know I do and as you can tell from the rest of the posts, the others do as well. I'm trying to see if I can sneak in some range time tomorrow to show a little love to my Shield 9mm and my new 686-6 5" Talo. Squeeze a couple of rounds off for me if I can't get there. Happy shooting and keep that powder dry!

I'll keep that in mind. This is my first handgun - ever. I am very excited to get it on the range and get to know it. I also plan on taking an 8-hr practical handgun class offered in our area as soon as possible to get better acquainted with defensive shooting, tactical thinking and just plain get smarter about responsible ownership and use of the weapon.

Learning never stops!

Got some range time in with my new Shield 9mm. Love it. Had some buddies there so I got to shoot a few other types of weapons. Fun day. Shot a 1938 Luger, a replica "cowboy" revolver in .357, a couple of Springfield XD's in 9mm, a 6906 and strangest one one of all, an old Russian DA revolver. The Russian revolver had all kinds of idiosyncrasies like the bullets being set inside the brass cartridge, the hardest trigger pull I have ever experienced, and you unload with a tool to push the spent cartridges out...and they don't come out easily. Yep, a very fun day.

That sounds like a Nagant.Russian 7.62 cal.
They're C&R guns, and are common for about $100 or so.

What type/bullet weight and brand ammo you guys shooting? So far I have shot 100 rounds Monarch (steel case ****) and 30 rds WWB both 115gr FMJ. Had one FTE with the Monarch...pretty sure my daughter limp wristed it. Otherwise, I have not heard any negative press on its reliability. Just bought 500 rds WWB 124gr FMJ to break it in some more.

I just used Winchester white box. Picked it up at Wally World. I had two FTF's which were user (ID10T) errors. Funny how that happens if your hasn't clicked in good and solid. N00b mistake, but I learned something. ;-)

So far I have only used Remington UMC FMJ 115 grain. Had one FTE occur when I let someone else shoot it. I purchased some Federal 127 grain HP but notice when I was trying to get them out of the magazine (by hand) that they seem to hang. Have not shot any so don't know if there will be an issue or not.
