Finally Got Myself a Model 19

I found what I had been looking for (almost) for a while now. It is a 4" 19-4 with TG/TT/TH. I wish that it had the RR/WO, but I got this one for a good deal and don't really intend to carry it anyways.

Dating it puts it in the 1980 year of manufacture, and after smoothing out the trigger this thing is an absolute dream to cycle. (not that it wasn't already sweet, but I give all of my S&W revolvers some trigger love). My fingers were shaking when I was tearing this one apart as I did not want to scratch this beautiful finish.

Pictures like this crappy cell phone one do not do this pistol justice. It is actually in a solid 99% condition as I see no blemishes other than a thin turn line. However, it looks like this pistol has seen some use from this photo. I'll get my Canon out and take some better pictures later for the "Ultimate" thread.

How much? I need to know how hard I should kick myself for passing up that 19-2 nib wood presentation case & matching ser # knife for 800$ ASKING. There should be a law against gun sales on Valentines day.

2 years ago, I got a perfect 19-2 in 4". No box or docs. Diamond targets numbered to the gun. Shop had it listed for $249! Cost me $263 out the door. Mirror blueing. Pinned and recessed. Stunning gun.

I sold it for triple the money. That money is long gone. I miss that gun terribly. Didn't think I would but I did.

Even if you find a 938 first, I would make the Model 19 first priority. The Sig 938 isn't going anywhere.

I thought that my hands were made to wrap around N frames. However, I have a hard time not smiling when I get my fingers around a K frame with target grips.

I have often told the story of my first ever revolver, a 4" Model 19, a 1980 purchase that I blew to smithereens in 1997. Long story for another time. As my S&W collection grew it just seemed appropriate to add a Model 19 but I didn't do it until about 3 years ago when a nice 2.5" stepped into view at a nice under 500 dollar price. Probably $450 but I don't recall. That's the gun that put me over the top and led to my membership in the SWCA and this Forum.

Not the best picture - that gun is much prettier than it looks in that photo.

I figured okay, great, I got my Model 19 replaced, done and done (I kind of had that same thought when I got my M 27 Classic, actually).

Twas not so!

Temptation reared its ugly head when a fine fellow on this Forum found time to offer a fabulous firearm for sale, a classic four inch Model 19. I had to figure out a way to have it have it in my hands and I finally got'r'dun!. (Forgive the funny alliteration but sometimes I find that I cannot help myself.)

Therefore, my FFL (oh, please, more Fs? How can that be?) awaits my arrival tonight at his place of business, if not tomorrow, to pick up my final grail gun.

And so it goes.....

I agree on the recent S&W quality.

Actually though, the MIM triggers are a bit easier to smooth (go figure). But I am getting rid of my MIM and lock models and getting P&Rs when I get the chance. I'm down to a new 686 and 629, and the 629 will be going on the market next week. I'll keep the 686 just so I'll have something to thrash and not feel bad about scratching up a pistol that is as old as I am.

You'll probably end up buying a "no lock" 686 too. I'd like to have a 3" L-frame to tote around But, I might have to buy one with the IL, considering what the CS-1s are selling for.

At some point you have to call it quits . I already have a 6" 586 no dash, a 6" 28-2, and a 8-3/8" 27-2.
