NICE FIND YES.
"FIND OF THE CENTURY" hardly. A historical person/celebs gun found in a garage sale for a stupid low price YES. Billy the kids gun comes to mind. How much $? ENJOY.

Admittedly, "Find of the century" may have been a bit over the top, I was just excited. I got the pistol for $300, with the original box.

I opened this thread expecting to see J. Edgar Hoover's Registered Magnum wrapped in his favorite dress. Quite a let-down, but still a nice find for you.

So one person's "Find of the Century" is a big yawn to others. 
Well, I say all power to the OP! Anytime I find a desirable 3rd Gen in "as-new-in-box" condition and at a bargain price, I get all giddy too!
Someday, I hope to find my very own "Find of the Century"... but maybe I'll just keep it secret after this!

The thing about the 915 is not necessarily finding one, but to find one in pristine condition. The blue/black 3rd Gen pistols show every little scratch and ding, especially the alloy frame. And, like a member wrote in an earlier post, they were an economy model and bought to be use. From the 915 pistols I've seen on consignment out here in Southern California, that sure seems to be true.

Congrats on the find! The 915 is a great pistol and finding one NIB is a great catch indeed!
There are some very nice 915s still out there. Including the rare Novak Full House 915 complete with Novak sights and match grade Barsto barrel.
Never having come across one of those I settled for this one. The only known 915 to have gone straight from the production line to the Performance Center And been reworked by PC gunsmiths.
The gun belonged to Mr. Bert DuVernay. He was the head of the S&W Academy. He told me in a telephone conversation that he wanted a gun he could teach with as well as carry on duty as he was still a police officer. He contacted the Performance Center and they selected a new 915 complete with an unusual serial number - TZZ8888.
The Performance Center did an action job, cut the slide and installed Novak low mount night sights, refinished the slide and crafted a slide stop that to quote Mr. DuVernay; "....tightened everything up nicely." He included the original slide stop with it.
So, for those who appreciate the 915 and "one off" pistols, here is a pic of my one of one "PC 915". Regards 18DAI
