Find of the century!!!

I think it is rare to find one that has not been fired outside of the factory test firing. These were budget pistols and I think most that were bought were bought for shooting purposes and used as such.

NICE FIND YES.

"FIND OF THE CENTURY" hardly. A historical person/celebs gun found in a garage sale for a stupid low price YES. Billy the kids gun comes to mind. How much $? ENJOY.

So one person's "Find of the Century" is a big yawn to others. ;) Well, I say all power to the OP! :D Anytime I find a desirable 3rd Gen in "as-new-in-box" condition and at a bargain price, I get all giddy too! :p

Someday, I hope to find my very own "Find of the Century"... but maybe I'll just keep it secret after this! :p

GOOD FIND/GOODLUCK

Everyone's centuries are not the same. FOR YOU maybe it is the find of your century. :) A CENTURY, I like the sound of that! It makes me feel younger. :D

Nice score for you and I'm glad it's not my job to keep it so pristine.

The thing about the 915 is not necessarily finding one, but to find one in pristine condition. The blue/black 3rd Gen pistols show every little scratch and ding, especially the alloy frame. And, like a member wrote in an earlier post, they were an economy model and bought to be use. From the 915 pistols I've seen on consignment out here in Southern California, that sure seems to be true.

Great find, OP.

A bit over the top yes, but you did us all proud. Thats a great score

I agree as most of them are well used and beat-up to some degree as well for that price. You found a really nice one for a very decent price. Good for you.

Congrats on the find! The 915 is a great pistol and finding one NIB is a great catch indeed! :)

There are some very nice 915s still out there. Including the rare Novak Full House 915 complete with Novak sights and match grade Barsto barrel.

Never having come across one of those I settled for this one. The only known 915 to have gone straight from the production line to the Performance Center And been reworked by PC gunsmiths.

The gun belonged to Mr. Bert DuVernay. He was the head of the S&W Academy. He told me in a telephone conversation that he wanted a gun he could teach with as well as carry on duty as he was still a police officer. He contacted the Performance Center and they selected a new 915 complete with an unusual serial number - TZZ8888.

The Performance Center did an action job, cut the slide and installed Novak low mount night sights, refinished the slide and crafted a slide stop that to quote Mr. DuVernay; "....tightened everything up nicely." He included the original slide stop with it.

So, for those who appreciate the 915 and "one off" pistols, here is a pic of my one of one "PC 915". ;) :) Regards 18DAI

Extremely cool 18! :D I paid a lot of money for my one and only ANIB Model 915 (for reasons I have covered before), but I'd love to find another one ANIB just so I could have one with Novak sights put on it while still owning an "all-original" for posterity. That's the one deficiency in the stock 915 as I see it. Otherwise, it comes awfully darn close to being the ideal full-size 9mm double-stack pistol for me. :)

Thanks TTSH! :)

I shot it a bunch in IDPA matches back when I was competing. Very accurate pistol with a great trigger. I cant recall if Mr. DuVernay used it........ I will have to pull out the letter he wrote me with the gun. I have the Performance Center invoice for it too.........somewhere.

The gun just sits in storage now. I haven't shot it in almost 9 years. I don't shoot as much as I use to. And when I do it is with my carry guns primarily. I am resolved to shoot more. I just need to find the time. Regards 18DAI

My find of the century happened about 15 years ago, & was not a S&W gun. A seller at a gun show had a beautiful Israeli FAL on the table for $695. I instantly grabbed it, & paid him in cash. A few months later, I saw him at another show, & went over to thank him for the fabulous deal. He told me he mismarked the price tag, & it was supposed to be $1695. But he also said a deal is a deal, & to enjoy it. Soon after that, he was fired. Now that was a DEAL. GARY.

I love the old smith auto pistols. Today I found the best one yet. A 1994 model 915 that's never been fired or carried. Not a scratch on it.

Great find! Congratulations. I bought one recently in close to new condition for $250. Not as pristine as yours though.

Now I cannot resist commenting on the FIND of the CENTURY.. :)
I was looking for a NIB registered magnum or Nickel pre Model 29
or keeping it in the semi autos... A Devel Full House Conversion for $300 or a PC 915 for $500 something in that realm. I think it a stretch to claim any value series pistol from S&W is an earth rattling find. But then to each his own:D

click bait...nicely done and I am not talking the 'find'
Wasn't intended that way. I really love the old Smith semi autos, so this was a huge find for me. I could easily buy all of the ones I want from gunbroker, but I prefer to find them in the wild as they come available. It's a hobby for me. To find this pistol in an unfired condition was a big deal to me. I'll try to withhold my excitement in the future.

Oh baloney! The heck with the yawners! :) I can't wait to hear about your next "Find of the Century"! :D

Yes, you got a lot of kidding, but it was mostly all in fun. :) It was an outstanding score for that condition and price. You have every right to be pleased about it. I wish I could do anywhere near as well. :) Awfully dry around here lately (and I don't mean lack of rain). ;)

Jeppo has the solution!

We've agreed the hunt is a big part of the experience. Perhaps it's dry in your area because you've already bought 'em all?

Have you considered "catch and release" which would let the hunt continue? :D
