I have just about settled on getting an M&P 9c with factory crimson trace laser grips that is in stock at my LGS for somewhat under $650 new. What are your thoughts on that set-up at that price.
It will be a combination range, HD and carry when I take the CCW class in early June and receive the permit a month or so later.

The CT grips are probably $299-ish from some places just by themselves. I don't own a CT on any of my guns but not because they aren't some of the best out there, I just haven't bought one yet!

The M&P9c is one of the funnest guns I've ever shot and I carry mine daily. It is just between the Glock 26 and 19 for size and even with the flush-fit mag it feels really good; I wouldn't hesitate taking it to a pistol class or even shooting it in some pistol competition. I do prefer the mag with the pinky extention myself but there is a company that makes a rubber slip-on grip extension that extends the grip so you can use the 17-round full-size M&P9 magazines. Those are really good and I have them for my 9c when I want to have a lot of fun at the range. They do fit a bit tight but a razorblade and about 5 minutes you can trim down the areas that are a tad high and the mags will slide home without much effort.

Great choice on a gun, depending on your location you may find a better price on line but sometimes it is hard to beat the local guys for service. But I think $650 is a good price from what I remember seeing.

I just got back from one of the LGS and left a deposit on the 9c with laser grips. I handled it some and it felt right and I think I got a pretty good deal at $639.99 plus NC Sales tax. and no transfer paperwork fees. I just need to get the permit to purchase from the Great State of North Carolina and then it will be in its new home.

That is rather strange to have to get a permit to purchase a handgun, sounds like Illinois not a Southern state or at least one south of the Mason Dixon Line which is in Maryland. At least your State honors or reciprocates with my state and in my state I have a handgun carry permit which allows me to carry openly if I so choose or concealed which I do most of the time except when going to the range then I carry openly!

Just got mine this past week and made it to the range yesterday. I had very high expectations and left very pleased after shooting 300 rounds. Everything smooth and kept a 5" group @ 15 yards. No doubt I am the limiting factor but for the 1st time out, I was pleased.

I had mine out again at the range last night and another 150 rounds through it without a problem...and a big smile on my face. I have an IDPA match tomorrow, one at my local club, and I'm so tempted to shoot my 9c in it. Great GREAT little gun...I may even like it more than my full-size 9mm!

I shot a rental at a local range it was a full size but I liked the way it shot and felt. after 25 rounds with the range gun I was shooting groups as good as I did with my .22 and 38spl.
I hate waiting for the damn purchase permit

You do not have to have a permit to buy a gun in NC, if you have a CCW, otherwise it runs through your local SD and takes a few days.

I am scheduled to take the CCW course June 4 and 6 But wanted to get the weapon I intend to carry and qualify for the ccw with it. So I went to the Meck. Cnty SD about a week and a half ago to apply.
It is now a waiting game.

I've had an M&P9 FS for about 6 months, and just picked up the 9C yesterday. It carries so much nicer than the FS. What's weird is that I seem to shoot the C model a little better, and the trigger in my new "C" isn't at all gritty like the FS trigger.
Shot 200 rounds of mixed ammo through the "C" this morning, no issues at all. Great pistol!

Gotta love good old Charlotte, the Redneck city that pretends it's in the N.E. lol. You'll get the permit eventually, the Sheriff in M.C. feels the need to jerk gun owners around.

90 days, maybe 120 if you are unlucky. Even in the best of counties it takes 60 days to get through Raleigh.

Took the class over a Saturday/Sunday (12 hours total). Drove to the Walmart Sunday evening to have passport photos done. Went to the Franklin County Sheriff Monday afternoon at 2 PM and filled out the app. Received a call Tuesday morning at 10 AM that my CW permit was ready and waiting.

Yeah, they run national criminal background checks, mental health and medical checks, it's not a rubber stamp deal in NC. My opinion is a simple criminal check ought to be enough, but they don't ask me...

according to the website. North Carolina Sheriffs' Association, by law, they have 45 days to do the background check and issue or deny the cc. It changed from 90 to 45 last year.
