First music you ever bought

First record I bought was a 45 RPM. Rolling Stones covering the Buddy Holly hit "Not Fade Away". They were just breaking out here in the US. I would have been 11 at the time. Still a big Stones fan.
Did a quick search on YouTube and found this video of them performing the song on the Mike Douglas show in 1964.

I remember watching that performance when it was broadcast!

Back in the 50's I remember watch American Bandstand with my Father. I was under 10 at the time. My parents divorced when I was 10 (1961). I went to visit him for Christmas 1963 and was surprised we had the same album in our separate collections, it was "Meet The Beatles".

The first record I bought was a 45 of "Fire" by The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, and then it was "They're coming to take me away" by Napoleon the 14th(?)

First album was probably either Santana Abraxas or ELP Tarkus.

Wait, my mistake. Alice Cooper wasn't the first Album that I bought.
It was Nazareth - Hair of the Dog, then Alice Cooper

First 2 albums were bought on the same day:

- " The Captain And Me" by the Doobie Bros.
To my 9 year-old ears, "Long Train Runnin'" was the funkiest thing I'd ever heard on the radio. Turns out that there were a LOT of songs on that record that I really liked and still do.

- "They Only Come Out At Night" by the Edgar Winter Group.
I'd been a drum enthusiast for 4 years by the time I was 9 and "Frankenstein" was like nothing I'd heard yet, drum-wise. There again, I really liked a lot of the rest of that album too.

Man…lots and lots and LOTS of water under the bridge since then…

I nearly wore out my arm cranking the record player....

Bobby Vinton's 45, My Heart Belongs To Only You. Flip side: Warm And Tender. 1963 or 64.

Bought a few albums from the neighbor girl down the street. Beach Boys Endless Summer double album was in that batch along with 3 David Gates & Bread albums and 3 John Denver albums. First ones I bought at the record store were two 45's. The Moody Blues 'Nights in White Satin' and The Carpenters 'Please Mr Postman'.

This the girl, John? Did she get her Daddy's car and cruise ya to the Hamburger stand, or did you show her the "Woodie"? :) :D

Elvis Presley (don't ask me which one) followed shortly by the soundtrack from Star Wars (what ended up being Episode 4). Both on 8 track.
