First rifle AR-15 or 15/22

I would say the best all around home defence weapon (close quarter) would be a taurus "Judge". 5 round revolver that can shoot .410 gauge shells (buckshot, bird shot, or slugs) or 45 long colt, now that is a compact shotgun/handgun (gotta love it). They are also a blast to shoot.

They have been selling quick at the local gun shops.

At the ready-- Cell phone, flashlight, reliable centerfire and most importantly a plan for the family to escape and get out of harms way if at all possible.

I have seen the judge never shot one...

shooting a .410 out of a hand gun does that not have some recoil?

You owe me a new keyboard. I just spit my coffee all over my desk when I read this.

i dont see how this got so far off, the guy ended up saying that he didnt want a home defense weapon and everyone just kept going on about it.

Dont you just love it when people join a thread just to complain about the thread and where its "going"

youngblood, you mentioned a used AR with accessories for $900 and you thought it was a good deal. why? do you even know what brand it is? you said yourself you're not an AR afficionado so why go down that road. if you've got money to burn, go nuts, but if you don't, i'd hate to see you waste your money or worse yet, get taken by a guy who sees you coming a mile away.

you can get a new AR for under $900. 11 mags? it will cost you $150-200 just to fill all the mags. AR mags are easy to load so you don't need 11 of them for average shooting. the 15-22 mags are more of a pain so having a few extra is nice to cut down on load time at the range.

as i said earlier, good luck.

Just a thought here why not buy an AR in .223 and then get a .22 conversion kit for it. You get the advantage of both worlds, a .223 if the SHTF and a .22 just to kill paper.

Prob. Because if you buy an upper conversion you will have just as much money in 1 weapon as you would of in 2.. and that 20000 rds you put threw ur ar is guming it up... if you want a plinker buy a plinker. If you want an ar-15 buy it.. but don't buy 1 of them and think its going to double perfectly for the other... without a compromise..

What you said +1

Hey phil , I'm building a ppsh-41 wensday... now that's a home defence gun:o:D:o:(

Those r by far my favorite sub gun... dangerous as a cocked cannon but fun he((

Why not get both?! Do like I did, buy a 15-22, throw a few minor upgrades on it. Then about 4 months later, order an upper from del-ton. You can get an upper for about $470 with a lowers parts kit and then just find a lower. I got a spikes stripped lower off gun broker for $110, so I can have a functioning AR for $580. Though I've spent about $300 more and got a Troy FF rail, Millet DMS rifle scope, and a Burris 30mm 1 piece scope mount. I'm gonna put a Magpul stock, grip, and Magpul BUIS's on it before too long.

I think I can help with that... get you some ammo and ill talk john into some "test firing" lol
