Hey guys, new member here. After a purchase of the Ruger SR22 ive been hooked looking into something to add to my firearm collection. After many hours of searching and getting one into my hands to feel it I think I may pull the trigger on the MP 15-22.

I live in NJ so I need the NJ compliant model with the pinned stock and bare barrel. I like the fact that I can color fill the gun and think that is sweet. I want to put a compensator on the rifle eventually so it will have to go out and have it threaded, pinned and welded. Im thinking about this compensator.

Muzzle Brake Compensator Twisted - Kineti-Tech

Any thoughts? Is there anything that looks more like a A-1 birdcage that is a comp or brake? No flash hiders/shrouds/or suppressors in NJ.

Anyone have any recommendations on services to thread the barrel and attach the comp?

Thanks

Welcome to the Forum. The M&P 15-22 will become your favorite .22 in a hurry! I too own an SR22 pistol with a CTC Railmaster on it, and it gets very little use compared to my 15-22. You'll probably be needing a bunch of extra magazines before long.

The webpage to order this product seems to be under construction or something, but this may be what you are looking for. Looks like the birdcage flash hider, and slips over the end of your barrel and attaches with a set screw - no threading needed.

Interesting, maybe I could get a machinist to "bore" out the breach end of a comp/brake and have them drill a set screw hole and thread it. That way I could just slide it onto the barrel and avoid the threads all together. It sucks living in NJ with the silly evil laws.

The website to order the fake flash hider is up and running again. It's $22 and made for people in States like yours, probably much less than buying a comp and having a machinist bore it out.

A flash hider is not the same thing as a muzzle brake or a compensator. Neither of the last two are the same thing, either, although many people use the terms interchangeably.

A flash hider reduces the visible muzzle flash.

A muzzle brake has slots/holes that deflect the gasses reward, lessening the felt recoil.

A compensator has slots/holes in the top that deflect the gasses downward, reducing muzzle climb.

There are combinations that supposedly do both of the above functions to one degree or another. The assault weapons ban states mostly prohibit flash hiders. Brakes and comps are generally legal, but not necessarily. Since TrueShots "flash Hider" is a fake, it's probably legal.

Right, if you follow the conversation though you'll see the OP mentioned buying a comp to have it bored out enough to slip over the end of the barrel and have it secured with a set screw because the fake flash hiders were unavailable at the time. I was just letting him know he wouldn't have to go through all that as the fake flash hiders are now available again.
