I'm a dyed in the wool Colt guy and I have only had a couple Smiths that I had sold off but this one was calling my name from the display case.

California Dept. of Corrections 64-2 snubby.

It had a few dings and scratches and the finish was not very even so I decided to clean it up a little.

Stripped it and went for a quasi dual tone finish.

More polished on the sides of the frame and cylinder and matt on the straps and flutes.

I didn't go crazy with the polishing and I think it turned out nice.

I had a nice set of stocks that I think look better than the Hogues.

Any idea what stocks they were originally issued with?

Awesome job on the cleanup, I have a 64-4 that came with the wood grips like you have on yours, I changed mine out and put on some combat wood finger grips, I picked mine up a few months back at a local gun show here in southern Florida, Great score you have there congratulations.
Here is mine with the combat grips

I had a 64-2 years ago, and had a very hard time shooting with the stock magnas. Those look like a big improvement.

I would love to get one but when CDCR dumped them, they all went out of state as they were not currently on the safe gun roster and could not be sold in California.

Hey Eric, at least 'Kalifornia' didn't melt them down into sewer caps as used to be done in NY. Or they didn't throw them into the ocean, as NY does now, or the British did to the personally owned guns the US sent them in 1940 when they had no weapons for their Home Guard.

That is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.
Kalifornia strikes again!
It is getting worse AB 169 if passed will not allow any handgun not on the current list to be sold private party and the y will no longer recognize the federal 50 year old rule for 03 FFL holders. California has some great things in it but our insane gun laws are one of them.

Growing up, I did remember some sewer caps that had Charter Arms written on them. Just as well, no good for anything else.
