First they came for bumpstocks

A federal AWB like '94 is political poison, and the Democrats know this. After the '94 law was passed, the political damage it did to politicians who voted for it still scares many politicians. 8 Democratic senators and 54 Democratic house members lost their elections in the aftermath of '94. Bill Clinton himself, in his memoirs, looks back with regret on the political aftermath of the '94 ban.

The only thing politicians care more about than long term gun confiscation, is winning the next election.

Keep up the pressure on this, and they will know that their careers will be over if they support another ban.

I understand your feelings, but perhaps we should avoid alienating and dividing gun owners. The other side is pretty united and we need to try and be more so.

May I suggest that calling someone a fudd or rino isn't going to change their viewpoint or garner their support. It may just harden them against reasonable arguments pointing out why they need to revise their position. Pushing people closer to the other side is not a winning strategy. Granted, we may never convince some gun owners to understand the issues the way we do, but let's at least try not to push them even farther into the other camp. It is going to be a rough few years ahead and we will need all of the support we can muster.

More than ever, we need to be more sophisticated about how we fight this political battle.

Just something to think about.

I've thought about that for decades.

Take a Fudd ELR shooting or on a SMG session.
Exposure to new shooting sports can benefit the young and old.

The old guard Democrats remember that, but we have a new generation of very young Democrats who are unaware of what went on in the 1990's. These young representatives will also likely have the support of the young voters, many of whom do not understand the Bill of Rights, the constitution, how government is supposed to operate, nor do they have a good foundation of historical knowledge.

Sadly, my experience with today's young people (I taught in community colleges from '98 to '13) is that they also lack much that made many on this Forum safe, responsible gunhandlers, often from a very early age. Handling firearms requires discipline, self-discipline, appreciation of the wrongfulness of damaging other people's persons and property, and respect for others. It also requires appreciation of the fact that a misjudgment can mean permanent injury or death to oneself or others.

I don't see those attributes often now; and remember, a firearm is truly a tool of the will. Only the use to which the tool is put is good or evil.

These politicians and judges work for me . I don't work for them. They serve at my pleasure.

Then next time one of 'em does something you don't like, go to their office and tell 'em they're fired. See who gets thrown out of the building first.

If your employee abuses you it's not the employees fault . This isn't rocket science. Just like raising kids it all depends on what you want to end up with .

I own the building. That tea wasn't that heavy. When the sheep tire of being led change will come . When more ride on wagon than those pulling wagon the trip will shorten .

I like the quote, but the problems are still going to happen when the wagon is being slowly overloaded and slowing down. Plus, there is no guarantee of what the outcome is going to be when the pullers say enough.

Plus; The fact that public servants are just that don't cut much ice when they won't acknowledge that and the majority don't either.

Look at the job a person has done in raising their kids. That will tell you whether they need to lead, follow, or just get out of the damn way.

If you think gun confiscation cannot happen here, read about what happened in New Orleans during and after Katrina hit. There is a very fine line between law and order and anarchy.

It is time for a lot of you to read the rules here.
If you want these discussions to stay open, keep it focused. We don't do general political and social commentary.

They are here if you have trouble locating them-

Sticky: READ this > RULES on HOW to use the 2A Forum

NOTE these especially:

READ these guidelines before starting a thread or participating in a thread in this 2A Forum. Consider them to be RULES for starting a thread or participating here.

This is NOT:
This is not where you post general political discussion and comments on OTHER issues not related to the 2A. Other issues are the economy, Obamacare, general Lib bashing, tinfoil and black choppers, how to start a revolution, etc, etc.
Keep it focused on the 2A issues.

This is not where you discuss what the 2nd Amendment means to you or a free people in general. We already know that. We understand the philosophy.

This is not where you bash the states/locations that suffer under restrictive gun laws.

This is not where you post your "What If's".

This is not where you swear your "Cold Dead Fingers" oath. Print it out and pin it to your door.

This is not for the latest news about some scumbag shooting someone or getting arrested with a gun.

This is not where you post your latest AR or AK.

This is not for discussing gun and ammo prices or availability.

This is not where you post which movie stars or talking heads are currently bashing the 2nd Amendment.

This is not where you moan about liberalism or the changes in our culture.

This is not for the latest news on a gunowner using a gun lawfully for self dense, unless it is simply an OUTSTANDING situation that we can use in the halls of Congress.

This is not where you will fix everything wrong with our society.

I've thought about that for decades.

...and yet you continue to use divisive terms like FUDDS when referring to other gun owners? Because...?

If you realize it further divides and alienates gun owners, and UNITING is the only way we have a chance, why do it?

Just trying to understand where you're coming from.

You can take it to a pm if you like I have too many demerits to respond.

UPDATE Well since you didn't you apparently don't want to know.
