FIRST TIME IN MY ADULT LIFE I HAVE WATCHED ZERO OLYMPIC COVERAGE

We agree in principle. Some athletes have stated that they don’t hate America, others have not. That right is what our brave men and women in uniform have fought and died for many times over. The problem is that most people want to limit that right. As an example, I believe that you have the right to burn the American flag in protest, kneel or turn your back for the national anthem, and refuse to to say the pledge of allegiance. You are not, however, free from consequences . . .

Muss, while I appreciate your sentiment, I don't think our athletes who engage in gestures of protest hate our country. I think those who believe they hate our country misunderstand them and their gestures of protest.

I believe that to protest, criticize our own country, is our right and perhaps even our duty as citizens. One can argue time and place for it, of course, and there are good arguments there on both sides. But it is undeniable that an athlete's ability to draw attention, to have the most impact, will never be greater than at the moment of victory.

(And, like with everything else that happens in our country, some people make a living, and their adherents a habit, out of using these incidents as weapons in their relentless culture wars. I say "their culture wars" 'cause they aren't my culture wars. I ain't gonna play. Got better things to do with my time.)

Ditto...

After what has transpired in our Country over the last year or so I lost all my desire to watch the Olympics this year. I know there have to be some athletes that respect our Country and our Flag but unfortunately the bad apples have spoiled the event for me. Sad to say - but I have not watched one single event!

As a matter of fact, I do feel bad for the few patriotic athletes who have to pretend or keep their mouths shut so they are not shunned at the Games, but in this complicated Country we now live in I have chosen to just not watch this time around - too painful. Hopefully things will change in the future, but somehow I doubt that. :(

Ditto on the games, also I have not watched a professional football game in about 10 years!

I am not a huge Summer Olympics games person (like the winter more) but have been watching some events when I have the time.

In regard to the protesting I believe good men and women have fought and died to give US that right.

While I may not agree with your opinion I do value the right to have a different one than I. I am sure that most of the people I don't agree with really don't agree with my opinion either but many of us freely give it, no matter the stage.

With that said I agree with Muss on this one.

(and for clarification the Soccer Team did not kneel during the anthem. The kneeling was before the match and other countries,at least the FREE Ones, did the same in regard to situations in their nations)

I had someone tell me they were rooting against some of the US Teams/Players because of some of their actions.

I asked does that make you more or less Patriotic?

The effort put forth by the athletes has been great and there have been some stunning performances by many of the athletes, both U.S. and other Countries.

I haven’t watched, but I’ve kept up with it. Protesting is one of the rights this countries founders were fighting for,I think a lot of people forget that immigrants came here because the government would not persecute them for speaking their minds. On a side note.A German immigrant bought the house next to my folks around the time I left home.He opened a tiny bike shop a few years later and eventually became the biggest one around. His son, maybe ten years younger than me,started racing in his early teens and eventually made it into two olympics in the 80s and rode several tours in Europe. I thought that was cool!
He’s back in the old hood now (so am I) just another middle aged guy with a gut ;-)

Here's an interesting thing about women's beach volleyball and their outfits (AKA bikinis): Per one previous female Olympian practitioner of the sport, per an article I read, these two piece suits are the most practical outfit for them to wear. Say they dive in the sand and get sand down their front. Falls right out with a two piece suit. With a one piece that sand would stay right in there.

I read this apropos of some female athletes feeling their Olympic or sports league authorized outfits were unnecessarily skimpy and hence demeaning.

An interesting observation, I thought, re women's beach volleyball.

FWIW, do not watch any sports except auto racing and thats by accident. So called professional sports is just another part of todays upside down society.

Why did you then click on and comment about an Olympic thread? They don’t have auto racing, so your disdain would be noted by your absence, which is kinda the Grey Man theory you half heartedly espouse . . .

Last time around, I did watch some swimming and decathlon and a couple others, but just because I was doing a weeks long project at a hospital. They served us free lunch every day and it was usually on in the lunchroom. This olympics, I haven’t even turned on the tv. But I do admit to checking out the total medal count in my news feed.

Real reason for Greyman is rescuing retired Greyhounds. Only have OTA tv antenna and mostly watch the old shows. Sometimes when changing channel auto racing is on. By chance NHRA I watch it. Figured this is a free to comment forum. I detest the woke garbage.

Why? And what exactly is woke? I can’t figure it out..

My apologies. I misunderstood your position based on this and many other similar posts. First you’ve mentioned about the dogs n a significant way . . .

Nothing firearms related on my vehicle, couple of Vietnam Veteran stickers( small) and couple of Greyhound stickers. All my friends are in our gun club or are gun nuts. Thank God my Kids and Grandkids have turned out well, Son has great business, daughter is Med Surg. RN, oldest Grandson is E-5 in Navy, all are into firearms and have already gotten part of my collection. As my name here implies , its how I feel.

Since the “ well meaning folks” in Florida voted to end Greyhound racing there are no more Greys to rescue here. Have a long time friend in WV that runs a rescue adoption center. May call him or consider a smaller hound once I get settled.

Greyman—My son and I had an Italian Greyhound—finest dog we have ever had. Looked like a delicate, purse-dog, she was a rabbiting, squirreling, small gaming machine. Never seen a better hunting dog. She would have run big swamp bucks if we had let her.

When we had to have her put to sleep, we came out of the exam room on a Friday evening at near close and the line was 10 people at least waiting to check out. The people in line just looked at us—we did not have to say a word—and the line magically parted for us to go to the front. Frankly it confirmed my faith in humanity and I told the line so as we were leaving out the door.

If you want a smaller greyhound look at at a game/hunting Italian or a Whippet they are both excellent dogs.
