Flash hider recommendations

Hi I'm OliRage and I just purchased my first gun (M&P 15-22) and had a blast shooting it the other day.

I'm trying to find the cheapest way to put a flash hider on the end of the barrel so that it doesn't look like a bb gun haha I'm pretty new to guns so any advise is much appreciated.

I don't know if this is a good choice or if it will even fit...

Kinda like Ford parts don't fit Chevy's, parts for one manufacturers firearms generally won't fit anothers. You might try contacting Smith & Wesson since they made your firearm in the first place.

If the M&P15-22 barrel is the same diameter at the muzzle as a real M&P15 without a flash suppressor, the Brownell adapter for an AR should fit and work. If it's not a close fit to the barrel, don't try to use it, just accept there's unlikely to be a cheap way to do what you want.. You'll have to buy the flash hider too. Expect your point of impact to change! The flash suppressor is now the crown of your barrel.

You might also check the offerings of various custom parts maufacturers, like Choate Machine & Tool. I'm sure there are others.

Yup, if you have a unthreaded 15-22 barrel it is the easiest solution.

Just remember, when you mount that flash hider (the one from TST) you need to be able to remove it if you ever want to remove the barrel from the receiver.

I went a similar route to put a muzzle brake on mine (flash hiders are illegal in Connecticut, but a MB isn't) and used BLUE Loctite on the barrel and set screw instead of RED. Red is semi-permanent and requires about 400 degrees from a torch to soften it enough to remove whatever it's applied to.

OliRage, the first one fits the Ruger 10/22 only. It has a cutout for the front sight and the bore is too large.
The second one is "universal" so that means it doesn't do anything well. It is the cheapest way to go, but you know what happens when you go cheap. It has 4 set screws to center the adapter over the barrel and they stick out when tightened.
The machining on those looks like a rock was used to make them.

Send FMJ50 a PM and he will set you up with one made for the 15-22. I've used his and they work fine.

I had my barrel threaded, but can testify to the quality of Tacticool 22's products. If you choose his adapter you will be able to use any AR flash hider and it will fit and function extremely well.

Have you ran any rounds through it yet? Did it come loose after the barrel warmed up and cooled down?

How expensive is threading a barrel? I would personally go that route instead of an adapter. Then you open millions of products up to choose from!

Threading is by far the best option, but you need to have a competent machinist or gunsmith do the work. If someone wants to use a die, pick up your rifle and run out of there.
I found a nice QD stud that mounts to the picatinny rail imported by shooters ridge. About $14.00 I might start carrying them.
I make a replacement QD sling stud for the collapsible stock so you can run a standard QD sling. $14.00 M4 Style Collapsible Stock QD Sling Stud [QDSTUD] - $14.00 : Tacticool22, Tactical .22 Rifle Parts and Accessories

Wasn't treading on your product, of course But if it were me(mine was already threaded so no worries), I'd much rather get it threaded over anything else. I remember reading about your adapter some time back but never looked into it since I don't need it.

If your particular state(s) has limitations other than mag capacity, check for regulations about threaded barrels. Here in Connecticut, a threaded barrel is illegal UNLESS there is a muzzle brake permanently attached to it; either welded on or pinned and the pin ends welded over. Flash hiders are not allowed on post-ban firearms.

Tacticool's adapter IS legal here, if whatever is attached to it is welded on. The adapter/brake combo itself doesn't have to be permanently attached to the barrel because removing it leaves an unthreaded barrel.

Mine is attached with the LocTite-coated set screw and a bead of Blue LocTite between the barrel and adapter.

is the purpose for the welding or pin and weld to prevent the adding of a suppressor later or something else??
we have a non threaded with the flash hider bonded on the barrel as i did not like the look of the set screws. illinois allows threaded barrels, our just did not have.

The purpose is to prevent the addition of a flash hider here in Connecticut. They are illegal on post ban firearms if the firearm has a pistol grip stock and a detachable magazine. Interestingly, muzzle brakes and suppressors are both legal - suppressors must have the appropriate BATFE stamp, of course.
