Flying the Flag properly

In warmer weather, such as now, I frequently see younger folk sporting US flag tee-shirts. I perceive that as a show of patriotism.

I am good with that. Even the shorts.

The last decade I have striven to not be labeled as "OK, Boomer!"

So far it has worked.

I, too, fly old glory 24/7, except during excessively high winds. When it starts to become tattered, I retire it. I used to bring it to the VFW, now I do it myself in a private, backyard ceremony.
As a member of our local AmLeg Post, we've had public ceremonies, but it's been a while. Same thing when I helped with kids and gkids Cub Scout days. Most everyone now in our small community, bring their retired colors to me for proper disposal.
As a citizen, veteran, Cub & Boy Scout member, etc. I consider it part of my civic duty.

I have a regular flag on the front of my house, and a Betsy Ross flag on my shed.

There's a road behind my house, and more people see the back flag than the front one. Both shine bright at night.

The City Hall and the local Library branch here both have Drop Boxes for flags . I think there is a Boy Scout Troop that collects them .

Yes. But what is worse is flag as clothing.

I was recently in San Ya, China sitting by the pool and watching the local talent, when a beautiful Chinese gal went strolling by in her tiny American flag bikini; I was covertly saluting. 🇺🇸😍 I am certain you wouldn’t see a gal in the USA or anywhere else sporting a Chinese flag bikini.

The flag does not need to be illuminated with a dedicated light, spotlight, etc. If there is a street light nearby or a light on a building that allows you to see the flag at night, that is perfectly legal and proper

I have long maintained that the way to eliminate the burning of the US Flag in protest is to decriminalize the misdemeanor assault of those engaged in said act. Freedom of speech, not freedom from consequences . . .
Same thing for beating those those who fly it on their trucks and tatter it to pieces. How about those who fly it a night with no illumination. Where is the line?

There's a lady down around the corner who put her flag out upside down.I noticed it when I went to work and when I came home it was still out. So I heard years back that was a sign of distress. I had to stop; if nothing else to maybe get a good story. (The lady, Cindy, had some "issues.") She was okay, so what the heck: "Would you like help putting it back the correct way?" "No, thanks. I just wanted to see if anyone would stop. Like a test. You're the only one."
"Cindy, please just stick to feeding the stupid birds!"
The girl who cried Coyote? (We don't have wolves up here.)
So, that secret upside down flag message, is that still a thing? If so, this whole city could use a big one.

A fairly well known furniture company ;)
Wrong!!! But here's a hint, they will be walking past my house today carrying that flag.

Only if you don't count degrees of separation.

It's quit easy to look up correct flag etiquette on the internet, there really is no excuse for getting it wrong. Mine also flies 24/7, with a dedicated light. It's only taken down in high wind or severe storms. Our VFW has a retired mailbox, (the type of box that used to sit on every street corner), that's been painted and marked as a depository for retired flags. Anyone can drop off their flags for correct and honorable disposal.

I understand your point here - ".....It's only taken down in high wind or severe storms."; but, mine will only ever come in out of the weather the day an Honor Guard does likewise ..... It didn't stay down at Fort McHenry, it didn't stay down on Iwo
Jima, it didn't stay down at the Ground Zero on 9/11, and it won't stay down here..... just say'n that's all - SALUTE!
