Aloha,

Even tho I don't dive very often anymore, I still look at dive and fishing sites.

This place has More different caliber Bangsticks than I ever dreamed of:

Beco Products Online Catalog

The Most impressive being a 50 caliber.

Wonder what that's like to be around when someone hits Jaws with it.

Got to give this company credit for it's products.

Wonder how many Navy Seals bought..........

Every place I have ever been diving you would be in as much or more trouble than the fish if you broke out a bang-stick. Last I heard of them, a 44 Magnum model was really something. :D They do have quite a selection.

Exactly how does BATF classify these and do divers encounter any problems with local laws?

Shot with a bang stick,9ft. long Golden Hammer. This one didn't want to die.I wanted to cut him loose but my friend wanted the mount and the mate was quick to kill him. They get a kick back from the taxidermist. The thing is the mounts are all from a stock mold and none of the fish is used, unless you catch something special that they don't have a mold for.

Bang sticks

Gave a 12 ga stick to a friend for gator "hunting". Don't think he's used it.. Health issues.

I think the 50 cal model was used by the N Koreans to sink the S Korean Navy ship :)

Aloha,

I emailed them and asked about the ATF.

Replied that they have a "Federal Firearms Revenue Ruling" and a # to go with it.

I just want to see the What fish people use the 50 cal on.

I doubt anyone would use it..

You need a little physics class on water, sound, concussion, and human tussue damage.

Whacking anyting with ANY of the bang sticks will cause a shock wave to travel thru your body and cause damage. The smaller calibers will do less damage. A .50 BMG will do lots of damage. Think organ damage, internal bleeding, ruptured liver & hart, scrambled brains..

During WW II harbor patrols would routinely throw hand grenades and small demo charges into the water to discourage divers from mining ships.

You may have even used the technique yourself..

Have you ever thrown M80's into the pound and watched the fish float up??

You gatta ask yourself,, "Self,, Do I feel lucky" before you use a bang stick in the water. They were and still are a option of last resort..

:D:D:D

I have known people that used them and they did not recommend using them in a closed in space, for the reasons you mentioned earlier. BUT the devil is in the details. These things act more like a "Shaped charge" than a generic underwater explosion. This is also a contact detonation and the "contactee" is going to get the shock wave and bullet and dissipate/absorb most of the energy.
Shaped Charge
The shock wave is also going to go away from the source and unless something reflects it back, will travel in a straight line until attenuated. You, the "banger" or "contactor" are behind the"muzzle" and as an analogy to a gun, where is the muzzle blast the most painful? Behind, beside or in front of the muzzle?
