For those on the fence about joining NRA

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Look around you and think, do I really want some of these idiots owning machine guns? As for the support the NRA gives Pro-2nd Amendment candidates, think about some of the radical ideas supported by those who are against gun ownership.

Not in the NRA, and not ashamed of myself.

I deeply appreciate the work they do defending our 2nd amendment.

That being said, the reason I'm not a member is that they throw their money behind a candidate based on the sole issue of guns, no matter how wacky the person might be about everything else.

Perfect example is in the Colorado Senate race. They are backing a radical because hes pro gun, overlooking everything else he stands for.

Flame away.

You contradict yourself.
You appreciate them/US carrying your weight, but don't want to help because they might not choose your favorite candidate to back. I'm not going to research the CO race, but perhaps they don't have much to choose from.

What will you say when you can't own a handgun and have to register your bolt action shotgun? Probably be one of the first to blame us for losing the fight.

People like you amaze me.
"Others in the group won't let me have it totally 100% my way, so I won't play."
Yeah, right.
That's surely the mindset that made this the greatest nation on earth with the greatest experiment yet seen in human government, that won WW II, and that took us to the moon.
Yeah, sure.

Do you have any knowledge of what has happened in other countries like Canada, Australia, and GB in MY lifetime? Do some research if you don't.

Many years ago I had just come in from deer hunting. As I was standing in front of the fire in his house to warm up, my uncle, a Bataan Death March survivor, asked me if I belonged to the NRA. I said I didn't and he looked me in the eye and said, "Why not?" I really didn't have an answer for him then but I became an annual member. Then did the pay over time to become a life member and I've since upgraded to Patron. Back then, I didn't have a reason to belong but now I do. I need the NRA lobbying for me as it would be useless to even think about calling my congresscritter. He is about as anti-gun as they come.

I am the dissenting opinion here. Just because an organization is large does not make it perfect, the last word, or the best option. Two pictures worth a thousand words.

They sold us out before and they will do it again. If you want to have fun ask the fund raiser calling you over and over what was the rational of the 1986 machine gun ban and what details do they personally recall....Oh yee of little memory...

The NRA has made some bad deals and some errors in judgement.
I think they learned from it.
I do not think they will sell us out. If they did, it would be over, and we'll be like GB.

Large may not mean perfect, but largest absolutely means they have more clout than any other group. THAT makes them the best option.

I will express my opinion here, and I belong to the NRA. They can be a little "pushy" for funds, but IF, there was no NRA, I feel absolutely certain that you nor I, would not; could not, legally own a gun of any kind.

Anybody who thinks differently has not paid attention to the prevailing atmosphere of anti-gun thinking in this country.

You do not have to convince the three-hundred odd millions of the U.S. population, that guns are "bad", just those 435 elected who walk the hallowed halls, and private ownership will be a thing of the past.

So, what do you non-NRA members do to help stop gun-banning? Anything at all ?

No flame here.....

This is the type of thing that I never cared for in the NRA. But they are THE gun lobby and I want to keep my guns. What I would like to see is a positive campaign to change people's minds consisting of television ads, shows, articles in magazines that aren't catering to those who already owns guns. Emphasize safety. We gotta fight from all angles, not just getting favorable candidates in office.

Please tell us the politician you've found that believes in everything you do. I know I would like to see them.

I have to admit I am more than a little unhappy with the NRA when it comes to the governor's race here in NY. Andrew Cuomo is outspending Rob Astorino something like 10 to 1 and should be destroying him but he's not. Cuomo is only running at 51% amongst males in this state and has a lead amongst women but they said he should be far and away ahead. Every pollster, every analyst all says Cuomo is in trouble and its because of the Safe Act, yet the NRA has not contributed one dime to help Astorino. I know this is NY and I know many people have written this state off when it comes to politics, but how can we take back our rights when the biggest gun rights organization and there are lots of members here in this state, won't help when they are needed. We can't do it alone. If Astorino does win, it will because of the groundwork done on the part of gun owners and people in this state who stood up to the big money on the Dems part. But I am seriously reconsidering how much money the NRA will ever get from me when they let a guy whose biggest platform was to repeal the Safe Act twisting in the wind.

If they don't know about The Firearms Owners Protection Act and it's passage then they should read this. Those who characterize it as nothing but a betrayal to gun owners in order to beat the NRA over the head might benefit too.

Grab a cup of coffee...

Thanks for posting that link. Nothing like clouding the discussion with facts. :D

I think this is a re-hash of an NRA topic about 2 months ago.

Several voiced their reasons for not belonging to the NRA and they were soundly thrashed, including me. Some people don't belong to the NRA for the same reason they don't belong to unions. I guess we are just a bunch of scabs because we don't like the organizational politics. I agree that gun owners should support an org. that supports our 2A rights. I don't belong to the NRA anymore but I support the SAF and view them as a very effective legal deterrent to infringement of our rights in the courts.

Get behind an org. that supports your 2A rights and vote.

Why can't people understand what a SINGLE ISSUE PRESSURE GROUP is? I don't want NRA to have an opinion on, or base its endorsements on abortion, immigration, school prayer, global warming, nor any of a dozen other hot-button issues. I want to know that every single dollar of dues or donations I make is going for the single purpose of defending the 2nd.

Does NRA endorse candidates I don't like? You bet they do. My own congress critter is a liberal dem, but he gets re-elected by supporting farm programs and keeping his NRA rating. He knows he would be toast if he didn't toe the NRA line.

Michael Bloomberg has donated $350,000 to the pac supporting the anti-gun candidate running for the open Senate seat in Georgia. Every time one of her ads runs on the local tv stations, it is followed immediately by an ad "paid for by NRA" making sure that Bloomberg link is well publicized. That's why I'm a member.

ill have to join the scabs. not going to support an organization who votes blindly for backwards thinking (not their pro-gun views) politicians.

OK,for those here who will not support the NRA--try supporting some other gun group instead. The more the merrier---ANNNNND, you wouls still be fighting against some anti--group in the process.

The NRA is a MAJOR reason that we still have our "right to bear arms"...are they perfect...no! but the last time I checked, I'm not perfect either!
