For those who carry or shoot their J frame. What ammo do y’all run

I use regular old 148 gr. target 38's or my hand loaded 158 gr lead swc ammo.

These are easy to shoot very accurately with the ability to quickly fire follow up shots accurately.

I've never found that expanding commercial 38 ammo does much expanding on living beasts. I'm unimpressed by performance in ballistic gel, bottles of water, or wet paper because these mediums produce expansion that isn't present when used on live game.

I practice with my own reloads in .38 special. The bullet can be anything from a 148 grain wadcutter to a 158 grain round nose, including the 158 grain swc or swchp. These are usually the Speer soft swaged rounds.

My usual edc is a 640. My carry ammo in it is the Speer +p 135 grain Short Barrel .357 round. I like this bullet a lot for carry in a .357 j frame. For me it is easily controllable in the stainless steel revolver.

Backup gun is a 642. I use the same Speer Short Barrel ammo in it, just the .38 Special +p variety.

For my S&W® M&P® BG38, I carry Hornady® Critical Defense® 110gr FTX® Standard Pressure #90310.

Don't EDC a J Frame now..moved to 9mm plastic

J Frame EDC since 1971 (model 36, then Model 60, then Model 637 up to last year). Sometimes winter wear would carry Model 64 (K Frame)

J Frame carry ammo Speer Gold Dot 135 gr JHP (+P).

Practice ammo whatever happened to be cheapest, mostly PMC Bronze 132 gr. FMJ (close in velocity and felt recoil).

Then I happened onto to M&P 2.0 Compact. Liked how it felt, how it carried in a kydex SafariLand GLS. Started practicing and now feel very comfortable with both gun and ammo. Carry ammo is Hornady Critical Defense 100 gr. FTX, practice ammo usually Norma 115 gr. FMJ.

I like the fact that I don't have to be concerned with weather, or heaven forbid, if ever involved with something where the gun is stolen or taken as evidence or whatever, I have no "value" on it anymore than any other tool I have in the tool cabinet.

Hi Neighbor, Speer Gold Dot for me. We were issued it when I was still working and I've seen no reason to change. (I actually use it in all of the calibers I have in my little inventory.)
One of these days I'll get around to getting one of your Plugs for my 638. I'm in San Tan Valley so I'm probably pretty close to where you're at. Finally getting past the pain stuff so I can get around better...

J frame ammo

I carry Remington Golden Sabre 125 gr in my 37, which is my everyday back-up gun

Yep not too far. I'll be glad to help you out whenever you get ready

I cast bullets , reload ammo and shoot a good deal .
My J-Frame 38 Spcl. does double duty as nightstand guard and usually stays loaded with my pet handload .
It's a solid base cast wadcutter - 160 grains

but you can substitute any solid base cast WC or SWC -
148 gr. to 158 gr.

Powder charge : 5.0 grs. Unique @ 895 fps.

My 360 has been mostly relegated to house duty since I started carrying my Sig 365. When I do carry it, my load is 158 gr Winchester SWC in 357. It barks in that gun and shoots well. No worries about not getting penetration through a winter coat.

Occasionally carry a 638 loaded with Fed 158 plus p nyclads. practice rounds are 158 coated swc. Would have no problem using standard pressure 158 gn swc for vermin. More concerned with control and penetration than expansion.

I carry 150 gr hard cast wadcutters form Buffalo Bore.

For practice 130 gr FMJ from various vendors. Whichever name brand version I can find.

Gun is a 340PD.

Groo here
I am using some "plated" 147 WC loaded to +p I got years ago from a small company ..
But just got in some Supervel Supersnubs [90gr jhp at 1300 from a 2 in]
Will use them as reloads..

Usually a 642, but could also be a 60 or 640. Right now, it's loaded with Federal 130gr HST +P. My speed strips are Gold Dot 125's or 135's. They go in faster on a reload than the HST wadcutters.
