I know of quite a few warnings about the place with an attitude that fits its name. Well, I ventured there today to see what all of the hoopla about them was about? went directly to the guns and ammo counter and..................................

boy was I disappointed==NO Handguns for sale and nothing that takes magazines either.:mad:

No 22 available--some 9mm though. I went to see if I could score a brick of 22: but they were raided and had a few boxes 9mm. Since I had a $5 dollar off coupon, I used it to go towards those two boxes of 9mm. Regular price would be about $25--I paid slightly under $20.

One thing I need to stress is--at least at this location, they did not ask for an ID to buy ammo-they only asked for my birth date in which I lied giving some made up date. The staff was actually nice. Im going back there to compare ammo prices w/ Academy as well as on the ammo I need. However--ammo is the only thing im buying from them--most everything was over-priced especially the Beef Jerky.

They recently opened a Field and Stream close to me. It pains me to say this but it's REALLY nice and they are well stocked with lots of every kind of firearm (even EBR's) and have tons of ammo (think cases of everything but .22). It's kind of like a mini Cabelas. It's too bad it's ultimately Dicks or I'd spend some serious $$$ there but I just can't bring myself to do it.

Just a PSA about Dicks. And a funny story to go with it. Back in 1996 or so my wife and I bought our first pc with internet service (thanks for inventing it Al Gore!). Anyway my wife's an avid marathon runner and was home sick one day. About 10am I get a frantic call at work from her that I need to come home and fix our new pc. Turns out she was looking at running shoes and decided to see what Dicks had. The dicks dot com website is NOT the dickssportinggoods dot com website. Our new pc had like 75 popup windows open with youknowwhats all over the place. She was so embarrassed and ashamed of herself over that one and I still harass her about it to this very day. :)

LOL I hated those days before all the safeguards. That actually happened to me about the same time but I was at work. I was researching something online and clicked on some link. Before I knew it I had about 80 very graphic porn sites splashed across the 32" color monitor I had. Of course as coincidence would have it my boss, CEO and a couple of other execs were coming down the isle saying "hello" to everyone and were a second away. I kicked the power cord in what was definitely an oh **** moment and saved my ***.

Many people found out the, ahem, hard way that dicks dot com is not the web site for Dick's Sporting Goods. ;)

No handguns in Dick's because they do not sell them, period. When they took over Galyan's here all the handguns went on sale at wholesale prices. That's how I got my 686+.:D

As for tricky websites, whitehouse.com does not take you to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Yep that's what kills me about Field & Stream. I hate how - in my mind - Dicks is hiding behind a new storefront name to get a slice of the pie they so quickly distanced themselves from after Newtown now that they realize just how lucrative it can be.

Are you saying you bought TWO boxes of 9MM (100 rounds) for under $20? That's great! Around here its about $15 per box.

I admit going to the big D's on black Friday for their "buy one get the second one 25% off " deal on ammo. BOY was I disappointed! Of the 3 calibers I shoot the only caliber they had 2 boxes of was .380 ACP. I got two boxes for $35. They had one box of 9MM for 17 bucks and no 38 special in stock at all.

For the $5 I saved it wasn't worth the hassle. Not that impressed...

Did the same thing when I searched for "school uniforms". I was doing an argumentative essay for a college english class - I had to argue for or against school uniforms. Pretty sickening the stuff that came up.

As long as you didn't get the Tee shirt with I heart and their logo.

Heh heh, nope but had they had one advertising GI 45s, id have bought that one >//:=)) One thing I noticed though, was a lack of customers in the store. This was at 11am==and the parking lot area in front of the store was pretty full.

That happened to me when I was looking at a site like movie posters . com and though everything legit--showed a poster or two of scantily clad ladies. Well, I was using a computer at a public library, and an over-zealous librarian walked by and saw the poster I was looking at to buy-freaking out over it and making sure that the 40 or so people in hearing distance heard her gripe. This lady aid I was looking at a "nudity movie poster" when in fact, it was an original Star Wars movie poster showing Princess Leia. This poster to be exact:

The head librarian in charge was brought to see what I was looking at and without trying to--made his employee look as dumb as a stick in mud when he laughed it off telling her in front of the unwanted audience--that it was only a Star Wars poster. Needless to say, she didnt last long at that job..

I asked the guy at the ammo counter why they didnt have even lever action rifles-- and he said: "we dont sell black rifles" I grabbed my 100 9mm rounds and left.

I bought a couple boxes of shotgun shells. That's the only think I ever bought that was worthwhile. Oh, and I think an athletic cup and folding chair.

The ammo was all i saw worth buying. I didnt need an over=priced can of Tennis balls.

Actually, I made a typo on the ammo price. I just looked at the receipt and the total was $28.95 but with discount, I paid exactly $19.45.:)
