I wouldn't rely solely on any internet info for your decision.

I don't know if I would rely on the internet for a decision, but I will say that it greatly affected mine. When I got my CCDW, i started looking for a EDC. I wanted 9mm for various reasons, and I wanted single stack (effectively taking glock out of the picture, but I did look strongly at the G26). I ended up with the shield specifically because of what I had read on the internet. I could not find a better gun for even close to the price.

I do tend to take people talking bad about something with a grain of salt. People talking good about something is completely different, in my opinion.

I did hold the Shield first (but couldn't shoot it). I also held several other guns. Most felt pretty similar (unless you get to the 1911 grip angle which I don't like) and the trigger on the Shield pretty much beat the rest out.

I love my Shield and my friend who owns several Glocks is almost converted as well.

Long story short, I do a lot of research before a major purchase, most of it on the internet.

I don't understand why people join a forum that focuses on guns they don't own...well, I can understand "lurking" to learn more about a potential purchase, and joining to be able to ask questions...but what I don't understand is to comment that no purchase is now or ever planned based on the comments made in the forum. If the "new member" arrives at that conclusion, then he or she should just log out and go away.

I have a G19 I will be keeping forever. It's just a great pistol. I'm going to start IDPA and plan to use the G19 as my competition pistol. I also have a Shield 9 for carry, but I just bought a Springfield Armory EMP 9mm. It's a beautiful pistol, amazingly accurate, and I plan to give it some carry time. I'd like to get a G23 one of these days too. I need to get it before it falls off the roster as well. The goal of course is to eventually make all guns unavailable in California. They are very patient.

I own and carry a G26, G19, PPQ M2, XDs, M&P 45c, and a PPS. When it came to single stack 9mm pistols, I shot the PPS better than the Shield, or I would have a Shield instead (still might get one, now that it is available without a safety). Of the group, the PPS and the G26 are easiest to carry, although the "compacts" listed above are also very easy to carry. I'll probably trade or sell the XDs, because it's not the same after the recall "repair". If I trade it, it'll probably be for a Shield or M&P 9c. Or an S&W revolver.

The next time you're at the range, take both guns. Practice with the G19 for a while and then try to shoot a controlled pair, from concealment, quickly, with the Shield. I think you'll find it a little difficult to place those two shots accurately.

IDPA was started so guys could practice their self-defense skills. Using guns with different grip angles could compromise your ability when it counts most; protection from evil.

Some people are not affected by it, but most are. Since you will shoot your IDPA gun a lot more than your carry gun, it's a good idea to at least have two similar guns.

Me too. Plus a G-22 .40. (I am limited to three guns on my CCW) But did pick up a G30s .45 and a G42 380.
Will shoot them for a while and see if they displace anything.
For me part of the fun is trying new guns. The slim 30s 10 shot .45 just appeals to me. And being 6' 3" 220 the G-42 is probably as small as I want to go. The slim design of the G-42 seems pretty slick to me. Do own more S&W products than any other. But am not blind to other great guns like my German Sigs and Glock's.

I have 2 Gen 3 Glock 19s that I will never get rid of, but a Shield 9mm and a S&W J Frame (model 38) are what I carry.
Could never warm up to the G26. Didn't like the 2 finger grip and was always getting pinched with the mag extension. Can get 3 fingers on the Shield (small hands). Put a Pachmayr slip on grip to give a little ore thickness and grip.

Have carried glocks since 1988 without a hiccup so never felt the need to change. Have owned one M&P 9mm FS that came in a package deal and although I didn't have any problems with it, I just never could gain any confidence in it so it was sold.

I'm still consider myself a Glock fan but the ergos of the M&P are the best out there period. The biggest gripe I have about Glocks are the trigger. That little safety trigger just irritates my finger when shooting for any length of time.
Smith and Wesson really did there homework on the M&P series including the Shield, even the trigger is ergonomic.
I'd say they are equal as far as reliability.
The Shield has almost fully replaced my trusty G27.
9 times out of 10 the Shield is in my waisteband.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Gaston Glock made the world take notice. He built a better mouse trap. Don't get me wrong as I am a S&W fanboy, but they are a stable platform that functions admirably. I am happy that S&W saw this and jumped in with their take on it. If I'm picking between two loaded corvettes, I'm choosing the one that looks better; the M&P.

Agree on the nice looks of the M&P but not a good basis for choosing a fighting pistol,but I kind of have the same sentiments. My conversion actually started with the introduction of the Shield. I simply saw it as a modern pistol made with proven modern materials and technology that,with a few minor tweaks could actually become what the ASP aspired to be in it's day,but at a price point and availability that just about everyone could afford.
With Glock dragging it's feet on recent production issues that everyone knew existed and that they adamantly refused to address for a long time,while Smith&Wesson continued to strive to make the M&P's better, that didn't give much wiggle room when making a decision.
A recent production M&P 9FS and a 45 midsize have joined the party. Long on Glocks and short on M&P's but that's changing.The M&P 9 is my favorite pistol since the Mod.39-2.
I plan to continue to support this American company.No chinese potato chips in my house either!

Although I carry a Shield 9mm, I'm still a Glock carrier. I've had many over the years, and though they never seem to fit my hand exactly right, I continue to come back to them because they work. I recently grabbed a Glock 30SF. The SF is quite simply the first Glock I've owned that actually fits my hand well. Because of the ability to run several different calibers from the same platform, as well as both 10 and 13 round mags, it's my workhorse gun. Grip angle and plastic sights aside, it's like anything, with enough practice you can overcome those issues. You just have to be willing to do so.

As for the M&P's, I have the Shield, but something about the larger models has yet to endear them to me. Maybe one day.

Ok, not a Glock owner but seriously have wanted to be for the last few years and have tried and tried to like them. I even almost purchased the 10mm the other day because I got a bonus and tried again to like it. But here's my problem, every time and I mean every single time I pick up a glock I feel like I'm reaching for the trigger.

I guess maybe my M&Ps have just spoiled me... I just can't get comfortable holding a glock and if it had even been somewhat close I would have purchased the 10mm is a skinny minute. Not even at the good price I was offered could I get around that "reaching" feeling.

My gun range clerks are big Glock people but I bet if they would really admit it, they like the feel of the M&P BETTER. And...last time I went to an outdoor range there was a big glock guy with us and I let him shoot my 9. He'd never shot one and worked in a gun store and could certainly tell you about all the horrible trigger stories associated with the M&P. Well after he shot mine, I could just see it in his expression how much he liked it, but man oh man he would never admit that.

Love my M&P's shield, compact and full size. Daily carry 9 compact, back up 9 shield and favorite range gun full size SD VE 9 full capacity. Have shot Glocks but M&P is my favorite.
What was that anticipated date that California was going to break away and fall into the ocean?

I used to be a glock 17 carrier.... I'm not proud of it, we've all made mistakes though.
Then I gave in to peer pressure when my local range and a s&w demo day I shot an m&p9. I now carry an m&p 9. It's like going from beer to 151. It's just more hardcore.

Iv been shooting glocks for a long time my 1st semi auto is a G17 Gen 2 still have it only last year i finally replaced all the springs on the gun and Mags... it has served me well for almost 20 years and i antisapate i'll be passing it on...
i carried a Kimber Tac Pro2 for the past couple of years but i got tired of the size and living here in south florida i needed something smaller so i went for the shield 9 last month and couldnt be happier, it has exceeded my expectations for the reason i got it... concealed carry... it fits my hand well and i can dress normally in the south Fl summer heat and still carry... its got great accuracy within the range i need it, most of all because of its size i can keep it on me all the time.... and that is uber important because a ccw dosent do you any good if its not comfortable or small enough to be on our person...

I gotta say i feel for your guys in CA, i grew up in san diego when the state was a Red state i couldnt imagine having to live there now... I go back every year and i love to visit the place but cant stand what the Libs have done to the place especially since i cant bring my stuff with me... drives me crazy right along with the politics....

I've been a Glock fan for over two decades and have carried a Glock 36 for almost 5 years ... until I bought my Shield 9mm. It now is my EDC.
Come winter, I'll carry the .45 again, at least some of the time. But the Shield is simply an amazingly good carry gun.
I want to try an M&P .45 Compact next.

Most of my handguns are 1911s or revolvers. I do own three polymer handguns. One is a Glock G20 SF 10mm with fifteen plus one capacity. One is a FNH FNX-45 Tactical with fifteen plus one capacity in .45 ACP. If FNH made a reliable FNX in 10mm, I would get rid of my Glock. The third is a Springfield Armory XDs-45 carried as a pocket BUG.

About six (6) years ago I changed from my Glock 21C to my M&P 45 ACP.

The Glock served me well without any issues for about five (5) years.

The vast majority of my career I had a S&W at my side and when the M&P finally came out in 45 ACP I made the switch.

I want a S&W at my side. End of story.

Have you ever shot a M&P? or a Shield?. And why do you use this forum to base you decision on the M&Ps. You should test fire a few M&Ps then make you decision. I have 8 M&Ps (Two Shields) and I am issued an M&P 45 for duty, BUT i always always seem to gravititate to my Glock 26 for off duty carry. My Guess would be that you test drive a car before making the purchase, A Gun should be the same way

If you look, you will find trash talking, and issues with every make, glock, Springfield, kahr, S&W, etc. You are more likely to read bad press than good as less people post when they're happy with a product than when they're displeased. All the posittive feedback for M&P's should be a good sign, not a little bad press being a bad sign.

I had a Glock 23 & a Glock 21 which I carried for my job in armed security. I gave them to my LEO son when I retired & before WI had a concealed carry law. We finally got the law passed & when I was in the market for a CC gun my son recommended the M&P series. I'm not cheap enough to ask for the Glocks back from him. He carries an M&P40 on the job & told me it's superior to Glocks. I took him at his word & got an M&P40 at a great price used & finally an M&P40C brand new. Although I never had a problem with the grip on Glocks I have to admit the M&Ps are definitely better.

My son & I both love the Glocks I gave him & he trusts them enough to carry them off duty. I'd buy one in a heartbeat, but I'd never give up my M&Ps.
