So after I sold off a Smith 457 I was in a local pawn shop and noticed a similar but different smith. The price tag was too much for me so I only looked at it once and couldn't see a model number.. This was a good 6 weeks back and I had been in and out of the shop maybe once a week and it sat there the whole time. Over all this time I managed to never remember the model from the store to my house.

Then finally I did last week and I had the thought to do some research...and thanks to you guys I now have it on layaway.

I was able to confirm it is a serial # in the lower 400 range from the early run. The grips are original and it came with the plastic case and 2 magazines. I did not see the paperwork but Im hoping it is hidden under the foam in the case.

So I am gonna admit I am more of an enthusiast than a shooter and I realize this pistol is far beyond my capabilities so please don't hate me for being the unworthy but lucky schmuck that stumbled onto something.

Congrats! I look forward to your range report. Regards 18DAI

Range Report?!! You must be mad!!!

Ok maybe I will shoot it once just to say I did before it goes into the safe be it my safe or someone else's.

Don't sell your abilities so short, so quickly. A pistol like an 845 can strip away so much of what clouds your own idea of your abilities.

Put another way... an 845 is FAR easier to shoot well than the average handgun. The pistol won't make you a better shot on it's own, but when you do your part, you can do better shooting with it.

I have found that when you shoot an elite handgun and make some impressive targets, you quickly gain CONFIDENCE in your own abilities that, along with diligent practice, makes you a better shooter.

Unless you bought this 845 for a pittance and it's dead mint & never fired, I think it's pure nuts to not shoot this pistol. The 845 is one of the finest handguns to ever carry the S&W name and it's an absolute joy on a range day.

Im not selling my abilities short as much as my goals when I shoot...I admit my goal is SD shooting to I tend to work on defensive groupings rather than target groupings.

That being said I will have to fire this just to say I did as I doubt I will ever hold much less own another of these.

Unless it's presently unshot it deserves to used. They're easy shooters that you'll enjoy. I didn't buy mine just to sit around.

Put the standard power recoil spring (7" long) in it for standard power loads. The shorter (6") recoil spring is for light target loads.

Friday is our next payday so you fellas will have to wait until next Monday most likely unless I sneak up there this week when the misses has be back turned..haha.

She is off work all week and tonite is my last shift in this dept. I will be transferrin in 2 weeks so I took the time off between now and then.

On that note..I am wrapping up 11 overnites in a row which will add a whole extra 30 hours at time and a half to my check...so Friday mornin should be fun.

Most likely this will be up for sale in all honesty..unless I can find another way to pay off my credit card quickly....quite honestly I shoot so rarely that I feel it is an injustice to keep this one just as an investment or safe queen...that is what old milsurps are for..hahah.

Ok I have it in my hands. I am looking it over today and hoping for some sunlight in the am to take some good pictures.
