In one of my asbestos awareness classes, the guy brought up the advertising idea, or maybe the design feature of "Kent Cigarettes with Micronite Filters." (I'm sure I have the spelling wrong.) He said pretty much everything with "ite" in its name is a form of asbestos. I had to escort a guy off his barstool beside me because he kept his cigarette down near his lap which made the smoke come up and into my face after I mentioned it bothered me and he thought it was funny. And I smoked, too, at the time. I don't see much romantic in those old commercials but maybe it worked!

Then there is generalized poor taste....

He was right

Snopes article here

Micronite filters, which use crocidolite asbestos, were exclusively used in Kent cigarettes from 1952 to 1956. ...Somewhat perversely, these asbestos filters were advertised as a health and safety feature in the 1950s:

Asbestos.com article
"Hollingsworth & Vose Company, also known as H&V Specialties, produced asbestos cigarette filters for Lorillard Tobacco Company’s “Kent Micronite” brand cigarettes... from 1952-1956...The filters contained crocidolite asbestos, one of the most toxic types of asbestos."
