Garage door opened by itself?

Had the same thing happen with my car. Someone down the block had the same frequency and when I heard the beep beep went out and a car was pulling out down the block. Had to get the dealer to change it. On that car thunder storms sometimes set off the alarm. Frank

This is the best case worst scenario one. Change your code immediately.

This is a common burglar casing action. They buy a replacement wireless controller, program it with a base code, then drive around and see which doors open. When one opens, they drive away, then observe that family's actions to see when no one is home. They will hit that home at their leisure.

......Or else someone just happened to hit their control that just happened to have an identical code as yours, as they just happened to pass your house.

This is the best case worst scenario one. Change your code immediately.

This is pretty common.

Had a number of unexplained openings on my old Sears opener, two while i was in the shop. No passersby or anyone around. I just bought one of the new ones which actually has a connection to my wireless modem and there is a cell phone app which lets me know of any activity or I can activate door anywhere I have cell service

Same frequency as one of your neighbor's gadgets or... paranormal happenings. Cash in on one of the paranormal realty shows, from what I have seen - my wife is a big fan - they will do a whole hour and repeat the show endlessly on a garage door opening "by itself"....

These new awesome phones have all kinds of apps for anything you can imagine. It is not a difficult thing to get electronic access to frequencies with scanning devices. I'd be interested to see if there was a roving code remote for your system. That, or an appropriate home security system that will monitor your abode 24-7 with cell/police notification of entry.

Aloha,

I live on the route the POTUS takes to go to Kaneohe Marine Base.

When the local police checked the route, my powered gate kept opening and I couldn't figure out why. Until After I called for service. They didn't charge me when we figured it out.

Also, when the military is having RimPac exercises, the garage doors all around Pearl Harbor goes nuts. Opening and Closing all because of the
electronic equipment running on the naval ships in Pearl Harbor.

like TEX said thieves can figure it out there just a few codes for all of them i dont use my garage so its bolted from inside we park under the house we live on stilts

I have the outlet my opener is plugged into on a switch that is inside my house by the door to enter the garage. Everyone home we switch it off.

Had similar problems to you a few years ago so I put a programmable timer in the outlet and then the garage door plugs into it. Basically the door only has power during certain windows of time and if we need it to be used any other time you must go n ad manually overide it. Not perfect but better. I would say we only manually overide 1 time a week.

You either have a neighbor on the same code or remote control / wall switch malfuction.

The return spring under the push button can wearout and allow your remote or wall switch to activate at random.

I had a remote do this years ago. Took us months to figure it out.

Good Luck

Check your wiring. Theres a good chance that one of the staples has broken through the insulation and as the temp warms up or cools down, it will cause contact across the staple completing the circuit and causing your door to open.

Happens frequently. When I am going to be away, I disconnect the power source for the motor.

I had this happen at my last house. I pulled the battery from the outside garage door keypad, never happened again.

Think it went bad.
