Gettin a little spooky in the woods.....

When I was in High School there would be some hysteria about growing operations in Indiana. Most would turn out to be remnants of commercial Hemp Farms from WW2. It was mostly low THC Cannibus Indicus (not sure of that name). After all canvas is a corruption of cannibus. Any of you hoosiers know if these fields are still around?
Coldshooter,
Oh yeah,
The ditchweed still thrives in places. I know of a friend
of a friend who just last summer bush-hogged about an
acre and a half growing on one of his farms.
Mostly along his fence rows in one area It was'nt
planted by any druggies. Just growing wild from years
ago hemp farming. If you smoked any of it you'd most
likely get nothing more than red eyes and a headache.

Here is a local artical I dug up. 5 years ago in our county it says 7,000 plants were found. Last year it was 22,000. Every arrest so far has been illegals. The drug cartel finances these illegals to plant and grow. We know what we have been reading what the cartel has been doing in mexico to people that cross them or fail them. One thing follows another. Now if you were sent up here from mexico, given money to buy supplys and grow MJ for the cartel and know where others have failed them and their familys were murdered back home in mexico, what would you do? Meaning, wouldnt you arm yourself to protect your crop, yourself and especialy your peon family from being slaughtered back home?
Now if a hiker or a geezer such as myself comes along on a atv, pulls off the trail to relieve himself in some thick brush and stumbels into a mj garden with poncho sitting there with his AK frying a taco, how do you think poncho is going to react? As far as I know we havent had any inocent hikers killed yet. There was one incident that one shot the other, and a woman was murdered up in the mountains without her killer found yet, but no motive was given either. I see a lot of the usual nut job comments on the article are for legalizing pot etc.

you can drive down any number of country roads around here in Nebraska and get all of the pot you want. I'm pretty sure that law enforcement knows where it is at also. how often they check these locations is another story

Ya don't gotta 'mule' it across the river if'n ya jest raise it here!

DS, Up here the Meth Labs have a habit of taking care of themselves...

Reminds me of when I worked as summer help on the county hwy department in SE Wisconsin back in the '70s. A lot of what I did was mowing grass along side the highway. Another summer guy I worked with was contacted by a county sherrif deputy and was told to mow all the weeds along this one ditchback running perpendicular to the highway, so he did using the sickle bar. The deputy chased him down the very next day and asked him where all the weeds went! Yep, over night the "weeds" were harvested!

Capt'n... did theys make ya'll wear tyvek and scott pacs? Man that's sweaty work an you kaint even enjoy a contact buzz.... :)

I told them firemen to leave go of them hoses until the whole place was as black on the outside as on the inside, but they was vol-unt-eer boys and wanted to play with their gear... the two stoners inside were long gone...

Back in the old days, when I was young and still wearing blue for a living, one of the local farms had a grow operation. Somebody (the farmer claimed not to know who) had planted a half dozen windrows of corn on a hundred acre circle, and planted the rest out in mary jane. It got spotted when the pot plants out grew the corn! Turned into a major slash and burn operation.....

I believe I saw a small piece on some huge grow farm up in east central Nevada this last week. I guess they're every where. Wide open spaces in some of the western states makes them hard to find.

I was in an aviation unit in Oklahoma back in the '80s. I'll say first hand that you can spot them from a half a mile away. They just didn't fit in the natural landscape. Usually they were on the edge of a farm field but still stood out.

I sure miss the view from a 'Huey.

Most is now grown inside, or underground where you have total control of the plants and LED lights has cut the cost by over half.
