Giving in to North Korea

I agree that the hacking, threats and then Sony backing down is indeed a very bad thing. This is a new form of cyber-terrorism and apparently it worked. Now its very likely to happen again.
But I have to wonder what the hell Rogan and Sony thought they were doing? They made a movie, a comedy no less, about an attempt to assasinate the insane dictator of a known aggressive communist country? These people take insults very seriously. Kim Jong Un is still fairly new to his position and looking for ways to prove his power. Did they really expect him to just laugh it off?
BTW: I saw the previews for this movie in a theater a couple of months ago. It looked so stupid I had no desire to see it. Still don't.

Theater owners were refusing to show the movie - why kill off profits from Unbroken and other bigger movies because people stayed home thinking the place was going to blow up?

If no one was going to show it, what's the point of releasing it?

When they first started running the trailers for it on TV, I thought "this is flat-out stupid and can't possibly go over well". Stupid idea from conception right thru to today.

It appears Sony movie productions is run my total morons and N K is becoming more and more emboldened every day. Although it probably didn't take the movie to make that assessment.

Aside from all of that, it may have been a pretty funny movie!

ANOTHER IN A LONG LINE OF GREAT DECISIONS. (SARCASM)

Like selling fighter jets to Iran. How could that possibly come back to bite us? Perhaps if we retained the self destruct app, it might work. :D

I wonder where Sony has their hardware made. I wonder who holds most of Sony debt. I wonder if Hollywood (in general) takes offense with a movie that insults a dictator. This is about China, not their stalking horse N.K.

Looks like you got one past the warden.;) Anyway, I won't expand on that other than to say you hit the nail on the head there amigo.

The problem with hackers is you don't know who did it. Could be NK but could ne the Japanese are still pissed at the ww2 flick that just came out. Could be someone had beef with Sony and this was their chance

You might as well as add the Germans too (ala) Fury.

BTW,I saw the previews for it when I went to see Fury--twice. I thought the movie was stupid to begin with BUT--id now go see it if only to irritate the chubbins with the bad haircut.

Seth and Franco thought it was funny, and as actor(s) they believed the best result was the actions that they were receiving before the movie came out. Now it might be direct to DVD, might not come out at all. I think Seth/ Franco were just eating this up till this happened. Now they are probably upset and pissed off.

Sony is a Japanese company; probably takes them off the list.

Elements of the hack -- it's know-how and the focus of some of the demands, has the appearance of inside knowledge; might be the case, might be deliberate misdirect.

U.S. cyber capabilities are second-to-none; ultimately the problem will not be determining origin, it will be determining if it's worth potentially exposing aspects of our capabilities in order to name the culprits and show proof.

The threat of terrorist violence in theatres which would show the movie is what shut it down. Nobody wanted it in their store.
If my understanding is correct, the theater owners were proceeding as planned but were rattled when Sony first floated the idea by telling them it wouldn't protest if they didn't want to show the movie.

That signaled to the theater owners that Sony wasn't standing by its product, and gave the owners an out.

The threat of physical violence in the theaters has at no point been considered credible.

Sony is an international company with Japanese origins

Quite true, but that undersells it a bit. Though an international conglomerate, at core Sony Corporation's present is as Japanese as its origins -- it's still a Japanese based, Japanese headquartered company.
