Giving up IWB carry.

Not because of discomfort. I don't want to take another chance of moving in just the right, or wrong way and have the holster, gun and all squirt out from between me and my pants. Only happened once in public but I'll just get some big shirts and use my Carry Lok.

I don't blame you...In my case, I see no advantage with IWB since invariably I wear an outside garment, even in the hottest of summers here in the SW. The idea of of having an extra size pants just doesn't agree with me either.

I guess I'm lucky in that regard, have actually dropped a pant size due to lots of exercise and now IWB isn't that big of an issue for me. I do agree though, when I first tried it I couldn't believe everyone did it for hours on end. Gradually I've gotten used to it, but there are numerous OWB holsters that conceal well with a cover garment.
 
If you buy a quality holster, you won't have to worry about it "squirting out". I've had some cheap clip on holsters like the Bianchi 100 and an Uncle Mike's that didn't want to stay put. I've never had even a hint of an issue with my Milt Sparks gun leather. I've found that then it comes to holster and especially concealment holsters, you really do get what you pay for.
 
For some reason, folks seem to go cheap with IWB holsters, and that's usually where the "squirt" problem arises. I'm a cheap so-and-so, but I satisfy that characteristic by making my own holsters based on a Dave Workman design that works like a charm.

No single carry method will suit everyone. For instance, I absolutely despise shoulder and ankle rigs, no matter how well made or how fine a reputation for comfort they may have. No problem, as there's no law saying I have to use them...
 
I have carried full size 1911's down to J-Frames all IWB without any problems. If you use a GOOD QUALITY holster and belt, they will stay in place.

That's not necessary. Just carry between the belt and the pants, and you only need a longer belt. Been doing that daily for years with many IWB rigs, with no slipping and sliding, and no larger pants.
 
I have not had any problem with my Highnoon IWB holsters, they do use a C type clip on their holsters that hook under your belt though. Heck I have even tried drawing my gun without a belt and the clip is strong enough to not allow the holster to come out with the gun

Which Workman type design do you model yours after?

Seriously, I'm a visual learner. Does anyone have a pic to show? Between the belt & pants sounds like OWB to me???

I am with Agent. A good quality holster will never allow the gun to come out or come off the belt. Everyone has their comfort zone. I took a while at first but the complete concealment for me is a plus. I carry about 14 hours everyday. 7 days a week. Even wear shorts & t shirt all the time in Florida. Full size P99 or Glock 23. My preference is a Kydex that has a tight snap in. There have even been times I have been hanging upside down working and never an issue.

It's not OWB...it's between the belt and pants like he said...you're lucky I happen to have had a pic....I'm not good at sketching.

With the IWB holster I use (the Kholster), comfort and security are never a problem. It simply can't "squirt out", and you can wear it all day with no problems.
 
OK. As a Police Officer I have been required to wear a sidearm for a good number of years. Personally, I have NEVER been able to become accustomed to ANY method of concealed carry. Bottom line. It's a pain in the ***. On duty, I never notice the gun, and like my vest I would feel naked without it.
Given the choice, I would much rather leave the gun at home when I'm not on the job, and grab it when I leave for work.
Unfortunately, and given today's environment, I am always armed. Not paranoid, just armed, and it sucks.
 
Here's my story. During my Narcotic undercover days we carried model 19, 2 1/2" You didn't want a holster on you because you could usally hid the weapon before the Police searched you. The practice was to place rubber bands around the grip and carry the weapon "bare" in you waist band.

One day shooting pool with a suspect I felt the revolver slip. Glad I was wear brief underwear. But it was long walk to the restroom to reclaim the gun from its resting place next to the "family jewels" Lesson I will never forget
 
Like others have stated, I have been carrying concealed when off duty for about 23 years. Almost always carried IWB, and have had no trouble, always using a good quality holster. If you use the soft, nylon holsters with metal clips and no retention method, then you will probably have a failure at some point. My current carry is my issued MP9 and personal MP9c, both carried in CompTac pro-undercover IWB. They are secure, the kydex clip is also very secure. Combine a good belt and a good holster and there shouldn't be any trouble.
 
Re carry between belt and pants, like in the pic above, is there any advantage to that over OWB? I have seen some holsters by Mitch Rosen designed that way, but don't see why that would be more concealed than OWB...

Does look more comfortable than IWB for too fat guys like me tho.

Would also like to know the maker/supplier of the canvas belt in the pic. I'm advising a pal that he needs a good gunbelt for his 1911 that he takes camping but he is balking at the $100+ prices on the ones I am familiar with.

(We need a sticky in this section for holster and belt suppliers. I know my belt suppliers question has been raised many, many times...)
 
With a properly made IWB holster, it can't just squirt out. Here's mine by Lobo Gun Leather ........ it's both secure and comfortable.
