How many of you, including you good coppers out there carry glass breakers for auto glass?

Have you used them on late model vehicles?

They reason I ask is because car makers are now using lamated glass on passenger windows too. The first was a 2002 vehicle.

You know what happens when you try to break out a windshield? Doesn't work too good.

Something to think about.

FYI...... I tried to use a center punch on a passenger side window and it bounce off! Don't remember the make and model.

Crowbars, baseballs and Estwing framing hammers do a decent job, but not quite handy enough to keep in the console- besides the baseball can't be used from inside without a bat too well. :p

A nice center punch from the hardware store does (used to do???) a good job. Some have a hole where a string of thread can be tied up around the steering column to keep it handy. Just give it a jerk and you'll have it in your hand to break that window out. I would have thought they'd be better than those new fangled thingys. The one I keep in my LTD is an old as dirt brass handled one (I think it's British, but I have another in my tools)- now I'm going to have to go to the junkyard and try it on a late model...my curiosity has gotten the better of me.

The few windows I broke were back in the 1980s on older cars...all legal though. ;)

By the way, I just looked up prices on center punches...and they are expensive now!!!!! Shows how long ago I bought one!!! Maybe one of the things I thought were gimicky might not be bad...but I'll have to test it myself.

Always need a good reason to go to the junkyard!
