Global Warming... Trapped In Ice

That cover may or may not be a fake, but I'm old enough to remember that there was talk back in the 70's about a coming ice age.

The Global Cooling Myth

Talk of cooling refers to the Milankovich cycles. These are very long term cycles of cooling and heating driven by slight changes in the orbit of the earth around the sun. The earth should be cooling over the next 20,000 years... Instead we see it heating over 100 years. Very different time scales.

And that Time cover was still faked. Someone went to the trouble to fake the cover and make people think it was real. Lies. I don't mind people disagreeing with me, but I do object to them lieing to me.

The climate doomsayers have changed their tune multiple times from global cooling to global warming and now the final default position "climate change", but the hype and handwringing remains the same.

Here's an article that well characterizes the global cooling hype in the 70s. Take a moment to read it. You see the same formula of doom and call for government action before grim reality sets in was no different 40 years ago than it is today.

I remember those articles from when I was in school. It sort of helped me get into geology in a backhanded way.

I will comment on the ship since I had to study icebreakers last year. The US is woefully behind in polar class icebreakers and there are very few in the public realm. The Russians and the Finn's have the best breakers and the Swedes are up next. The key is the rating of the breaker and while there is no good cross reference between Soviet/Western classifications, the best boats are the big Russian Nuke boats for shear power and abilities. They are getting long on the tooth though.

For ballpark numbers, a good polar class icebreaker will run you about $300 to $500 million per copy and practically you need 3 in your fleet. You need 3 for the vary reason they are stuck down there right now. You need a primary ship to buck the ice and then 2 for breakers to keep pounding the lane open and keep it working.

Anyway. I wish them luck getting out. If they are really in there hard, they may be stuck for a while meaning years.

It is -20ºF outside my window, and I don't want to guess at the windchill. I googled global warming. It exists. So does global cooling. We do seem to be in a warming trend, and man made or natural is kind of irrelevant if you don't intend to do something. A few degrees of temp change (average world wide) will change rainfall patterns, agriculture, fish movements, wildlife. It could screw up your hunting and fishing. May not effect us much, but it just may screw up our kids lives. It could be something to look into.
Isolated events don't change the fact that average worldwide temps are above average.

I remember walking to school in the 3rd grade looking up because the world was supposed to end that day. Ted Danson said the oceans would be a cesspool full of dead fish by a few years ago. And now "scientists" say people are frying the planet and these guys will even lie, fabricate false data, manipulate other data, and intimidate naysaying scientists from speaking to prove it.

I read a long article on "climate change" a few days ago.
Noticed that carbon and carbon dioxide were mentioned every second
paragraph.
The sun was never mentioned at all...

I will remember that the next time I am tempted to read another screed like that.

I'll see your John Metcalfe and raise you an Anthony Watts. And I'll throw in the last 18 years of net global temperatures as a sidecar.

Watts Up With That? | The world's most viewed site on global warming and climate change

CAGW (oh, sorry, CACC) is hogwash. :D

Anthony Watts is a joke. Sorry. That site has about 20 different reasons why climate change can't be happening, or it is happening but it isn't us, or it is happening and it is us but don't worry. Science should be consistent -- that site is just throw up **** and see what sticks.

Take a look at the NASA site. You'll see a bunch of different kinds of evidence, all pointing to the same conclusion. If CO2 wasn't a green house gas, the earth would be an iceball. The fact that we've jacked up the CO2 levels in the last 100 years has to have an effect.
