Glock 17 VS S&W 3rd gens

I've owned few Glock pistols, a 23, 21SF, 31, and a 17. My 17 will never leave me. All the rest have been sold or traded without a second thought. They all shot well for me and I never had ANY problems with them. I can shoot my 17 very well because I've shot it so much. I love the way it points, and how low the slide is. Your buddy just needs practice. I think Glock is the best plastic gun out there. That said, I'd love to have a M&P 40. M&P's are the only other plastic I look at. I've handled many a plastic H&K, Taurus, Springfield, and others that I just didn't like the feel. Glock pistols just fit my hand so well. I'm new to the 3rd Gen Smiths. I've had a 1076 I traded for a 1006. I love them both. I'd like to have a 3913 and a 5906. Smiths do look a lot better than the Glock guns. But they all do what I need them to do.

3rd Gen. vs. Glock

I've had both S&W autos and Glocks as issued duty weapons and personally owned off-duty weapons for most of my 33 years as an LEO. Both have advantages over the other, in my mind; although no Glock will ever have the asthetics of an S&W.

Yesterday, I took two just-purchased pistols to the range; a 1066 and a G30. I used our standard qualification at 5, 10, 15 and 25 yds. I shot 100% with both guns, but the 1066 had a bit tighter group. In short, I would carry either without doubt or concern, but the 1066 showed what a steel-framed, American-made pistol is all about.

I still would say it was a weapon issue. Although possible, it would generally take a very limp wrist to cause the malfunction. And for it to hjappen that many times in such a small timeframe tellms me it was weapons malfunction.

On a side note, I believe those who are nervous about keeping a round in the chamber of a Glock should not keep a round in the chamber. When one pulls a 1911 out of its holster and aims it at an individual what is law enforcement policy? safety on or off? If its off then which trigger is more sensitive a Glock's or a 1911's.

Golden rule:
Keep your finger off the trigger until you've made a conscious decision to fire.

What generation Glock and was it new? They finaly managed to mess them up with the Generation 4, a new one will not run out of the box, it requires break in. I heard from a dealer who sells a lot of Glocks on a new Gen 4 to lock the slide back for at least 24 hours before shooting and to use 124 grain or heavier ammo for the first 200 rounds, after that it should work with 115's.

I have Glock 30 and a 4566. I had one FTF with the G30 on the second mag, clearly because of me (limp wristed it when it surprised me). other than that, both have fed everything I've loaded.

The G30 groups much better than the 4566. Why? I don't know. If I don't figure it out soon, the 4566 may have to head on down the road, even though I really enjoy shooting it.

I recently went through a G17 vs. 5906 purchase dilemma. I chose the 5906 because, while Glocks are definitely good guns, I prefer the look, feel and shooting qualities of the 3rd Gen S&Ws.
