Glock 42 : hang onto your shield

I don't know, i just don't get it. I have 380's and am aware of their benefits and shortcomings, but i just can't see there even being a buzz about this gun. Its no big deal.

The $570 is on an auction site Gunbroker. That same auction has a little over 8 days to go and is now up to $600.

The other 3 on that same site are $550 and above. Makes me want to buy one from a shop just to make a profit to those willing to buy any Glock smaller than the 26/27. ;)
 
Hi everyone,

Haven't been here in a while. Just saw the this thread on the 380 so I thought I'd throw up this image of my Micro Desert Eagle with new Marschal Grips I installed today. Added a extended mag a few months ago.

I originally bought this for my wife but she didn't like it so I started shooting it. Really tried not to like it but darn if it isn't accurate and fun to shoot. Anywho, happy new year!

For me, I'm glad I don't have to spend more money on another gun. I know if it was a 9 I would have to get one and try it out.

Seems that Glock is too late to the .380 party with too big a gun to be of much interest. I'll keep my 9mm Shield...

Thanks for the heads up on the Remington R51

I checked out pictures on the internet and the weapon has a backstrap safety which would be nice for my south paw wife but I am going to wait.

The shape of the weapon reminds me of somthing you would see on Star Trek.

I am not sure if I like the shape but the retail price of $389 for a 20 oz all metal ccw is going to push weapons like the Shield to drop in price if the Remington turns out to be a decent handgun.

First Glock comes out with the .45 Gap, then they create the Glock 30s, and now they come out with the Glock 42.

......I don't think the listen to their customers. .......which is why I sold all my Glocks. :D
 
I compared my Shield to an "actual size" photo of the G42. There was virtually no difference in size from all angles. Even if it were a 9mm, it would still be one less round in standard magazines. I like my Glocks, but they are all 9mm. My Shield is 9mm, but all of my other polymer guns are M&Ps in .40 and .45 ACP. I did own a G30s for a short time. It was a very good pistol, but I found it was not the equal of my M&P 45C. I sold it and got another 45C.
 
The R51 is a nice gun, but all steel, nobody is going to carry it with that weight. You might as well tote a Commander. As for the Glock 42, too late and too big for caliber with that rotten trigger. I have nothing against a .380, but there are a lot better choices out there in that caliber and I own a few of them. I'll pass.

I believe the R51 has an aluminum receiver and weighs something like 20 oz. I don't know that I'm interested in one, though. Again, my Shield works just fine.
 
With all that has been said, I could still see myself getting one.
 
Thinking this over, I'm not surprised they released a .380. PEOPLE ARE GOING TO BUY IT! Then Glock will release a single stack 9mm and the same people who bought the 380 will buy that too, in addition to non-Glock 42 owners buying the new single stack 9mm. If Glock came out with a single stack 9mm, and then a .380, I doubt their .380 sales would be very high (case in point the LC9 and LC380).
 
I have a 22year old inter arms PPKS and it is still one hell of a great shooting pistol, was my carry gun until I bought my shield. Glad I don't shoot it much any more or I would have to start reloading 380s.
 
The one I mentioned earlier on Gunbroker is up to $755 dollars now with 3 days to go. More money than brains is the phrase that comes to mind...
 
I think Glock will sell a bunch of the 42`s but that`s nothing compared to when they put a 9mm in it then it'll be hot...

I like the Remington R51 all edges are smooth making it east to CC...It has that retro look...At the price I`ll pony up for one unless it ends up being marginal but I can`t think they would bring out something that wouldn`t work... otoh some to these Mfg`s have been making mistakes.. for some time..
