Cross Pens are the way to go. Steel refill and none of that runny ink to ruin your day. You don't even need to worry about the spring breaking, 'cause there ain't one. And, you can get space pen refills for them, if you ever decide to become an astronaut.
Can they be used as a weapon?

Can they withstand a triple charge?

Considering I started in LE back in the mid 60's I thought the model 10 was the bible on pistols (revolvers) I loved my Clark 45 that was a match gun only. Other than a few Pythons that were carried on duty most of what guys used were Smiths with K frames. The transition then was to a K38 or Combat Master Piece, with a Python and Diamond back showing up occasionally. Back then Smiths were the choice of most police. ?Admittedly Smith has made some bad decisions lately the biggest bad decision in my opinion was discontinuing the 3913-53 probably one of the best designed semi autos ever made. Glock has somehow become the auto of choice of Police. I guess they are ok but they just have a look I personally don't like. Now that Ruger has worked out the initial problems with their safe action SR9 and 40 they seem as easy to shoot and pretty much goof proof as a Glock, but the grip is more slim and the total gun is smoother looking and fits most hands where in the Glock are more of a big handed pistol. IMHO if you are going to carry a semi auto it is hard to beat a all steel Sig i.e. 220,or the HK P7 series. I would love to see smith come out with an all steel semi auto, with old time Smith workmanship and recapture the LE business. I guess now is about price, price and price, with ease of training a distant fourth...Sort of sad when you look at the total picture. I pick up a 70s or even 80's K model or Python now and the quality is outstanding,,,No locks. no concessions to quality and they were almost a piece of art. I have heard of one Mid West PD that was trying the ?Sig 357 round in Glocks have problem with creaked frames, they subsequently traded them in for Glock 9mm..Could have been bad ammo but the idea is a little scary. One real question I have about Glock is how do they fit small hands??? When I started very few female beat cops most were in Juvie and carried snub nosed revolvers. Now you have smaller people in LE as most height and weight requirements are gone....I guess the argument will be ongoing it is just to bad American police can't find a American weapon to carry. Sorry George, but 1980 is gone and not coming back. This is 2011, the guns you see are what we have today, tomorrow will be something else... As for the standard LE weapons, I believe the M&P's are the fastest growing in popularity out there. Once more end users actually handle and shoot one, get over the BS, we'll see more of them in the hands of our LE's..

I don't own any Glocks, but I like them. I've shot both the S&W M&P and Glocks and preferred the S&W. I own guns primarily for fun, so I really am not interested in these; I prefer S&W revolvers. But when it comes to a semiauto 9mm, I really wish I had a S&W 39-2.

I own S&W revolvers and autos, I also own a few Glocks, Colts Rugers and Sigs. I enjoy them all I recently bought a Llama 32 especial because the price was right. The gun sitting next to me is a Chief's Special 38.
I have never owned a Jennings or Rossi or Taurus, never liked the feel of them. Some people love them. if I look hard enough i even have a genuine PO8 Luger in my safe.
Years ago I worked at Shooters and I wanted to buy a stainless Luger I can't even remember who made them but we sold 2 or 3 and they were not very good so I skipped it.
I figure to each his own find what you like and can shoot well and buy it.

I have always like to shoot the Glock 19. I have had a few also. I do not tell people to get one for their first gun. I usually recommend a 4inch revolver.I shoot Glock 19's better than any other semi but that dont mean they are better it just means i shoot them more often.

One of the leading collectors of Registered 357 Magnums totes a Glock.
I have shot Glocks, and like them for what they are- reliable bullet slingers (lots of 'em) you ain't gotta worry about marring (I could say they couldn't be made to look any uglier, but that would be exagerating). I don't carry one because I prefer other things.
I don't think it appropriate to hype Glocks when a guy asks about S&W's, but the rest of the time I don't care if a guy INCIDENTALLY says he likes Glocks.
If you're here to preach the superiority of Glocks over an S&W, then yeah- GO HOME!

I guess I am like Lee and love the entertainment of a good old Glock bashing thread, even though I have a couple myself.
I once heard the best description of the gun I had ever considered:
"Basically, a cheaply made gun that has benefited from a world-class marketing job that has been extremely successful among buyers who are not experts in handgun marksmanship."
And so they are.
To the OP - I would buy the Model 60. They are a modern classic that you will never have cause to regret having.
To the Boss (with due respect!) - If I am going to have a cartridge let go in a centerfire autoloader, let it be in a gun with a steel frame.

What in the world is this thread about? all the bashing about Glocks or for that matter any other gun. It's just a gun.
Don't get me wrong, I do not really care for them and only own one, a 19. It's the only one with a supported chamber so I can safely reload for it. I had the 40 but did not care for it.
Everyone bashes "Tupperware" How many Tupperware guns does SW Make? Where did SW get the Sigma and then the M&P from???? I had the full size SW MP45 and while a fine operating gun it was the most inconsistent shooting (grouping) gun even after sending it back to SW and a barrel replacement)
My SA XDm will outshoot the M&P any day.
How many LEO agencies carry Glocks? It ain't just for the price break they get them for. They work, are accurate and pretty much trouble free.
That being said, I really do not care for them either and dislike the trigger and like metal, alloy guns with hammers and decockers myself but hey are well made reliable weapons.
So with all the different makes, models, materials of guns being made it's hard to argue the success of Glock even if you do not care for them. The gun in the dishwasher might just as well be the M&P. Polymer or Zytel is Polymer no matter who's name is on it.

I will freely admit to owning other brand firearms, Glocks included. They work as designed and are durable. Personally I do not care for them but would buy more if the price is right.
As to LEA buying Glocks, they pretty much did so as the cheaper bids is the way most departments work. One area dept got the 9mm back 30 years ago for $189 each and then was given $100 for each of the S&W revolvers turned in. A few years later, the dept went to the .40 and they cost less then $250 each and there was a back room deal with one LEO to get the contract signed. It was and then the guy retired nicely. Now it looks as if the replacement guns will not be Glocks and may not be .40 caliber.
Notice how many Federal agencies are leaving Glock. Many depts are leaving them. I read an article last night that came across my desk saying that about 50% of the depts in the northeast have left Glock in the last five years. It may be they are now being under bid or the guns did not meet the current standards. I do know a local dept has experienced a lot of accidental discharges from Glocks inside the station.
But government works with the cheapest bid most of the time.
