A lot of times when gun collecting or accumulating, we go down "Rabbit Holes", acquiring gear and companion guns to go along with a recent purchase. This became clear to me with a purchase of a 9MM Ruger PC Carbine.

Got the rifle about a year ago when they first came out, found one at a police supply house at the then discounted price of $464, now most folks can find that price easily. Shot good for me, fun to shoot, so she's a keeper, now to find accessories....

First an FSDC "Caretaker" bag, same size as the Ruger 10/22 Take Down Bag, but only $49.99 on Amazon.com vice $85 like Ruger wants, if they are available. Fits nicely in the hood/trunk of my ATV:

I hear shorty Glock 26 magazines work in the PC Carbine. Much more compact than a 17 round magazine, we'll keep one with the rifle so we always have a magazine:

If Glock 26 magazines work in the PC Carbine, I wonder if a Glock 26 pistol will fit in the top pocket of the FSDC bag? Of course they do! $446 with night sights from the same police supply house who sold me the PC Carbine:

A Bianchi "Shadow" holster for the Glock 26, $51 on EBay:

I wonder if the FSDC Bag with PC Carbine and Glock 26 will fit in this old tool box I found at the pawn shop, size 24" X 12" X 12"? Of course it will! $6.00 for the box, some fresh Navy Blue paint and I have a nice security chest for it for vehicle use. I'll cable it to a seat frame for peace of mind...

I wonder if other folks mind works this way, or is it just me? It has been enjoyable rounding up this stuff for the Carbine, and enjoyable testing them out and shooting with them.

Now you need a red dot, and a sling, and....

Also, Glock 19 & 17 mags work in it, you need one each of them (not just the mags, but the pistols).

Not quite as deep a rabbit hole, but mine has a sling, red dot, and muzzle brake on it along with a few additional mags. It is a fun plinker. I've been experimenting with different loads to try to find something accurate out to 100 yards but haven't found one I like yet. Maybe that's asking too much from a 9mm cartridge, or me!

I teach and shoot at a fancy resort in CO. We started a 9mm carbine shoot last year because we could shoot them on the pistol steel range. The class became extremely popular with the guests. We have several 9mm carbines on the AR platform but the Ruger was often the top choice of the guests and the instructors as well.

Ruger PC9

Ordered mine yesterday in digital camo , can´t wait .

Friend tells me they will be available in FDE with fiber optic front sight....I really like the ghost ring rear sight. Great but I'd like to see it on a rail for a longer sight radius. I'm old and can't see an open rear sight, ghost ring on a rail would be idea. I'm sure all will be offered soon if only as distributors exclusive.

It's definitely an interesting gun, I'd like to handle one before jumping down the rabbit hole as some have put it. Nice to see you enjoying the journey!

I've had mine for about four months and really like it. It is handy with the duality of mag types and the caliber matches my Smiths. For a little carbine it does whats asked of it.

Since I don't own a Glock and have no plans to, I'd really like to see an M&P mag adapter.

Sounds awfully like the 'hole' I dug with the Bond Arms derringer. Bought too many bbls for it seems now like no reason. Altho I adore derringers, it is one I will never carry due to it's weight and bulk. Oh well.

I also put a sling, red dot and flash hider. Fun range toy, have put every type cheap ammo from the shelf of Wal-mart without any issues. Kinda on the heavy side for an old guy though.

BakeB.....

The vehicle I will use the security container in is a full size conversion van. A vehicle I use while traveling, sleeping in it. The security container is for when you are camping, vehicle unsecured, windows down, and you want to make sure your gear is secured. Also so no one can just bust out a window and steal a gun in a case....

I just saw a release from Ruger that the carbine is now available in .40 S&W. I'm personally waiting for them to release it in 10MM. Maybe/maybe not???

I'd like to see Ruger start offering caliber conversion kits for those that already have the PCC 9mm.

Also have been waiting for Magpul to come out with x-22 Hunter stock, like the one they have for the 10/22 take down.

A 10mm take down carbine would be a GREAT hog/brush travel gun. Full original power loads for 10 would make it a good bear defense too.

I kind of want one of these in .40 S&W. I already have a Kel Tec Sub in 9mm and love it. How well does the takedown barrel on these stay true or hold up? Not a criticism, just no experience with the Ruger take down guns.

I bought mine about a year ago. As soon as I got it home I installed the Glock Magazine Block and switched the charging handle to the left side (I'm a rightie but still like the handle on the left side), and mounted a Vortex Strikefire on it. I've only run about 100 rounds through it so I can't speak about accuracy or dependability yet. I think it's neat but I'm still waiting on the aftermarket stock options that I hope are coming. Just to be fair, if it had not had the Glock Magazine Option I wouldn't have given it a second glance.

I like it, but I hate Ruger!

You see, when Harris ordered the enforcement of the microstamping law in California, Ruger was one of the big name companies who ABANDONED California in terms of sales of AR's and semiautomatic handguns, while continuing to reap big profits from revolver and rifle sales. They should NOT be rewarded for this. Ruger could, at this very moment, be selling every single handgun they had on the "Roster" prior to the microstamping order, but they intentionally CHOSE to abandon Californians by removing all their semiautomatic handguns from the market (though grandfathered) save for the 380.

I appreciate what Ruger has done with the 9mm carbine, though I think they should have offered a 10mm version, but when I consider buying a 9mm carbine I think Chiappa M1-9mm because at least THEY didn't abandon our market with their semiautomatic handgun products while exploiting our "dollars" to buy everything else.

I own TWO Chiappa M1-22 Carbines - one with wood stock, the other with polymer and both have been stellar performers. I also own a Chiappa .17-10 SA revolver that holds 10 rounds of .17 HMR and is amazingly nice with a $200 range price tag. So I'm no stranger to Chiappa. I also own a Chiappa Rhino .357 5". When I think of a 9mm carbine I think of the Chiappa M1 version. The only thing Ruger has that would draw me in is the Glock magazine system, though the Chiappa M1-9 uses the Beretta magazine which is just as easy to source. Now if they'd just make a .22 TCM9R version!

FWIW, it appears the FSDC "Caretaker" bag is no longer available at Amazon or anywere else I've looked, including the vendor's own website. I don't have a problem buying the Ruger branded carry bag, but I sure wouldn't mind saving the money between the cost of the two!

I purchased the Caretaker bag from Amazon some time back. I also have a 10/22 TD with the Ruger bag. The Caretaker is identical except for the stitched logo and the fact that it has two carry handles instead of Ruger's one.

I think the availability of the FSDC "Caretaker" bag comes and goes on Amazon. Sometimes it's not available for a week or more, then becomes available again.

Moose,
I've got one on the way. Been thinking about it for some time, and all these good comments posted here toppled me over. Should have it in hand within a week or so. We will see!

Sistema and canoeguy,
I'll probably keep checking on availability of this bag. They probably make them up in batches so maybe more are on the way. I want to get the rifle in hand and check the dimensions of each separated piece of it and figure out just which way I want to go. The minor differences between the Ruger and the FSDC don't appear to me to be any issue for me. The price difference does make a difference. Plus, I'd rather not have an obvious gun related patch on the bag.

I'm excited to get this rifle in hand and see what it will do. I believe for it's purpose, it's likely to be a good piece of gear to own to repel boarders at home or on the road, especially if a situation should arise when I want to reach out and touch something!!!

My Ruger bags have 2 handles...plus a shoulder strap to attach to the "D" rings.
