Going down the Ruger PC Carbine Rabbit Hole.....

A 10mm take down carbine would be a GREAT hog/brush travel gun. Full original power loads for 10 would make it a good bear defense too.

I kind of want one of these in .40 S&W. I already have a Kel Tec Sub in 9mm and love it. How well does the takedown barrel on these stay true or hold up? Not a criticism, just no experience with the Ruger take down guns.

I bought mine about a year ago. As soon as I got it home I installed the Glock Magazine Block and switched the charging handle to the left side (I'm a rightie but still like the handle on the left side), and mounted a Vortex Strikefire on it. I've only run about 100 rounds through it so I can't speak about accuracy or dependability yet. I think it's neat but I'm still waiting on the aftermarket stock options that I hope are coming. Just to be fair, if it had not had the Glock Magazine Option I wouldn't have given it a second glance.

I like it, but I hate Ruger!

You see, when Harris ordered the enforcement of the microstamping law in California, Ruger was one of the big name companies who ABANDONED California in terms of sales of AR's and semiautomatic handguns, while continuing to reap big profits from revolver and rifle sales. They should NOT be rewarded for this. Ruger could, at this very moment, be selling every single handgun they had on the "Roster" prior to the microstamping order, but they intentionally CHOSE to abandon Californians by removing all their semiautomatic handguns from the market (though grandfathered) save for the 380.

I appreciate what Ruger has done with the 9mm carbine, though I think they should have offered a 10mm version, but when I consider buying a 9mm carbine I think Chiappa M1-9mm because at least THEY didn't abandon our market with their semiautomatic handgun products while exploiting our "dollars" to buy everything else.

I own TWO Chiappa M1-22 Carbines - one with wood stock, the other with polymer and both have been stellar performers. I also own a Chiappa .17-10 SA revolver that holds 10 rounds of .17 HMR and is amazingly nice with a $200 range price tag. So I'm no stranger to Chiappa. I also own a Chiappa Rhino .357 5". When I think of a 9mm carbine I think of the Chiappa M1 version. The only thing Ruger has that would draw me in is the Glock magazine system, though the Chiappa M1-9 uses the Beretta magazine which is just as easy to source. Now if they'd just make a .22 TCM9R version!

FWIW, it appears the FSDC "Caretaker" bag is no longer available at Amazon or anywere else I've looked, including the vendor's own website. I don't have a problem buying the Ruger branded carry bag, but I sure wouldn't mind saving the money between the cost of the two!

I purchased the Caretaker bag from Amazon some time back. I also have a 10/22 TD with the Ruger bag. The Caretaker is identical except for the stitched logo and the fact that it has two carry handles instead of Ruger's one.

I think the availability of the FSDC "Caretaker" bag comes and goes on Amazon. Sometimes it's not available for a week or more, then becomes available again.

Moose,
I've got one on the way. Been thinking about it for some time, and all these good comments posted here toppled me over. Should have it in hand within a week or so. We will see!

Sistema and canoeguy,
I'll probably keep checking on availability of this bag. They probably make them up in batches so maybe more are on the way. I want to get the rifle in hand and check the dimensions of each separated piece of it and figure out just which way I want to go. The minor differences between the Ruger and the FSDC don't appear to me to be any issue for me. The price difference does make a difference. Plus, I'd rather not have an obvious gun related patch on the bag.

I'm excited to get this rifle in hand and see what it will do. I believe for it's purpose, it's likely to be a good piece of gear to own to repel boarders at home or on the road, especially if a situation should arise when I want to reach out and touch something!!!

My Ruger bags have 2 handles...plus a shoulder strap to attach to the "D" rings.

Yea. Once I thought it over I realized your on to something. If I ever get a rifle with that feature I'll do the same. Thanks for the idea.

I'm going to wait for the 10mm if I' get something that heavy. Might be a while.
