Previous owner of a Model 19 filled the roll marks with gold wax pencil. What is the safest way to get rid of this stuff? Acetone, Hoppes, heat...etc? Thanks for any info.

Any of the above, but I've used Hoppes more than anything just because I always have a jar.

I agree that you don't NEED heat, and certainly not a LOT of heat... but I know what works for me. Blow dryer on high to soften it up, then Hoppes and an old toothbrush. Usually makes for a very quick removal.

Acetone and then wax the gun afterwards
I have applied gold and taken it off and this is what I use
I dip a Q-tip in acetone and it works fine doesn't hurt blue or nickel at all
It will clean the finish very well so I use a non abrasive wax and go over the gun after I'm done.

Acetone and an old Oral-B tooth brush ... scrub it clean , don't get acetone on wood , plastic or wood finish ...steel , blued or stainless is A-OK !
Oil metal after removal ... acetone is a powerful degreaser .

I am glad someone started this thread, I have a old revolver that needs this treatment.
