Good article about the new Blued Python in AR.

I saw a 6" blued one in a case at a local gun shop the other day. They had it priced at over the MSRP by maybe $1-200. I didn't even ask to look at it. It looked good through the glass, though. On their website, they do have a SS 2 1/2" Python and a 5" Matte finished one. But blued would look nicer, maybe. I don't think I remember a 3" on the site.

I enjoyed the article too. Actually the first thing I've enjoyed in AR in years.

When the new Pythons came out in 2020 I was happy, and impressed, but thought "$1500???, That's pretty steep. Glad I don't need any more handguns." Now I'm not so sure. A blue 6" could fit in my life I think perhaps...

I think these are awesome. I was happy with the stainless Python. Never thought we would see a blued Python. The 4" and 6" are plentiful here in the Charlotte area. Definitely going to snatch up a 4". Followed by a 2.5-3" when available. Probably fewer than 10 years before these disappear and we're all kicking ourselves for not buying multiples "back in 2024 when they were available for only $1,500.00."

Colt made these for us...guys (and ladies) late 45 years old +. They'll stop making them when we stop buying. The younger folks will stick with plastic. These will be gone soon too.

Of course, I am trying to remedy this problem by creating a new generation of revolver enthusiasts. Here is O with her present, Christmas 2022.

I know what you mean. I was near the front of the line when the SS ones came out, and with two of those in the safe, I really wasn't all that excited about a blue one. I mean, I wanted one, but I already had two, so I wasn't all that excited by the idea of a blue one.

Then I saw one. :D

I thought it was cool when I bought my baby a Heritage 22 single action when she was 15!
So, anyway, the slots under the rib don’t bother me, except more PIA to clean. Now that it has my attention, why 3 slots in the blue ones and and 2 in the stainless ones? Not being a metallurgist or modern blueing pro, maybe they threw in an extra slot for heat dissipation to protect the blue? I didn’t notice that in the AR article, but the two pics on pp. 32 & 33 you see both in each flavor.

Here's a picture of my stainless and blued 4.25" models. I have no idea why some folks get so upset about the number of slots in the barrel rib. I could care less. If anything, I might have a slight preference for three.

ZGrand, did you polish your stainless gun? It looks shinier than mine. It kinda looks like the Bright Stainless of the past.

I got lucky and found a NIB stainless 4.25" and 6" version. He post them on a local sales network for less than retail and accepted an even lower offer for both. No tax no background check just a bill of sale between two legal residents.

The 4.25"l shoots great and is only lacking more range time. back in the early 80's the owner of a LGS agreed to trade for a NIB SKB shotgun that I had for a new but, no box 3" blue Python. I foolishly sold that Python to buy a pre 64' Mod. 70 competition receiver that I built into an across the course match rifle. I still have the Mod. 70.

Blue or stainless, the new Pythons are awesome and worth the money, in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I love my Smith & Wessons but, as a firearms owner, the Python has always been held in high regard.

They are certainly pretty. I handled and dry-fired a stainless version at a store, and had to say that its SA pull was not all that impressive compared to a PC 686+ 5" that was also there, while the DA pull was about the same. The catch of course being that the S&W was 2/3 of the price of the Colt.

Now, if Colt can be so "heretical" as to make a four-inch with THREE vent-rib holes (GASP!), could they not also make a "+" version with seven chambers and a better SA pull? Best of all worlds. I'd be all over that! Oh well, I can dream...
