The good news? There were five (5) whole boxes (50 rounds/box) of .38 Special, 158gr. LSWC (standard velocity) at the pre-hysteria price of $18.99/box. The current limit on "non-popular handgun ammo" (.22lr; 9mm; .40S&W; .45ACP) is 5 boxes/person/day. I thought long and hard about whether to purchase the ammo, or not, and in the end, I took a conservative approach and bought 3 boxes to have on hand in case I wanted to go shooting one day, and didn't have time to crank out any reloads.

The bad news - some people STILL don't get it...some loud mouth was standing in the middle of the aisle at the ammo section with a smug look on his face and loudly proclaiming "Ya'll shoulda been stockpilin' like me! As soon as Obama got elected I started stockpilin' ammo like you wouldn't believe so I wouldn't have to be like all of ya'll are now".

Sigh, last time I checked, the current ammo "shortage" is largely due to those of us (shooters, not the gun control people) who buy more ammo than they need or can use so they can either hoard it (because a] there's a shortage going on; and/or b] those gun control people are gonna take away our guns and ammo); or because they are entrepreneurs and take great joy in charging marked up prices to those willing and able to pay their jacked up prices.

Everyone seems to know what the solution is: quit buying (and hoarding) ammo that you don't immediately need. But no one, except for you, me, and a handful of sane people seems to want to do?

Am I nuts, or is this the way you guys see it also?

Regards,

Dave

By the way - the other 2 boxes were still on the shelf when I left the store. Good thing I'm such a caveman and like the .38 Specials.

I have personally witnessed this same thing from 2 different men. One was in Walmart and the other at Academy. I also think they just want the attention when they speak in an unusually loud voice about how much ammo they have and how smart they are. It irritates me also.

Yep. I agree. It's a biological wonderment that there are more horse's patoots than there are horses.:D

Interesting... You stated that you bought 3 boxes of .38 Special you didn't need "just in case" and complained about folks buying ammo they don't need "just in case" in the same post.

Cut the guy some slack.

Where in my entire post did I say "I didn't need" the ammo? I normally reload for my .38 Special revolvers, and rarely buy factory ammo. With the recent shortages, this is the first time I've seen factory .38 Special ammo on the shelves at any price, let alone pre-hysteria prices. If I was a hoarder, I would have bought all 5 boxes, not 3 of them. Sheesh!

Mazz: thank you.

Dave

I never said you were a hoarder. I said it was interesting that you bought ammo that you didn't need "just in case" while taking to task others who bought ammo they didn't need "just in case" in the same post.

I went to Walmart the other day and they brought out a case of 5 WWB 100 round boxes. The guy stocking the shelf asked if I wanted the limit of 4 I said no I only want one and to leave some for the other guys. He said I was one of a very few people that has done that. I dont need 8000 rounds just to have it.

Any time. Any veteran who has defended our freedoms does not deserve to be second-guessed or have his posts parsed.

If I were there, I'd probably want to fling a 50 round box of .44 Magnums directly at his head. Anything heavier and I wouldn't have the strength.

today at sports academy was ridiculous. I went in the morning and they had 4 1000rd boxes. first 4 got them, no big deal as there were like 10 500rds and me and my father got one each. But there were butloads of 325rds federal and then a whole bunch of some type of winchester 100rd boxes. I thought to myself 2 and a half hours later I would like to buy one for a family friend who recently just did me a favor, so I sent my sister, all of it was gone. There was so much, I find it ridiculous, but then again it is memorial weekend.

I don't know but....

I don't know if you are nuts, but I do know that guy is a loudmouth *******.

And yet here he is, standing in the ammo dept. Did he not buy enough already or does he just like the atmosphere?
