Well I finally did it! I convinced my wife to apply for a gun license!

For several years she has fought me on the subject saying she 'had no need to carry a firearm!'

I had her watch Glenn Beck's show a couple of times last week and after she learned of all the whackos and Marxists Obama has in his shadow cabinet of "Czars"...
She quietly looked over at me and said, "What do I have to do to get this gun permit you keep talking about?"

I explained that she needed to visit the police station and get fingerprinted and pay her fees and fill out the forms and we'd go shopping for a handy little .38 for her.

To my surprise, when I came home the next day, there was a copy of her application, a receipt and a brochure about gun safety on the kitchen table!

I DO believe I was successful! Even if it took all this time... Now I just need to get her a gun that fits her hand and some range time!:D
Whew!

Congrats, be sure to have her check out semi autos and some revolvers to see what fits her best. Let her chose the gun she wants. If you pick it she will not carry it for long.

Now I just need to get her a gun that fits her hand...
Rule #1: You may suggest a particular type of gun and caliber, but put your male ego aside and let her pick it out! Remember, it will be her gun, NOT YOURS!

Your marriage will thank you for it!

Scott

She's already expressed an interest in Ruger's new little compact .380 auto, and... she thinks 'wheel guns' are sort if ugly - figure that? She has handled every gun I have and I have received the same response each time..."That's too heavy!";)

I'm sure it will take several visits to the gun stores and maybe even to a larger gun show where she can 'fondle' several different models at one time...

Yeah, I understand that if it doesn't fit her hand and she doesn't like the 'looks of it', she will not carry it.

She likes the idea of 'fanny pack carry', so we may have that worked out already... I'll keep ya posted!

Congratulations to her and to you!
One less victim! Scott's giving sage advice, let her choose the vehicle. Barb C and many other Women on the Forum can be very helpful to her. The ladies have some links devoted entirely to Women doing C/C and self defense. I was relieved myself when my Wife applied for her permit, then actually carried hers!

Exactly. Once your wife finds out how liberating it is to walk around without being afraid, she'll never be without her carry gun.

I don't know whose tag line it is and I may not be getting it right, but it goes something like, "Gun control is the "right" of a 100lb woman to fist fight a 200lb man.

Get her straight away to Cornered Cat - Table of Contents. A great website written by and for women. I bet it will answer just about every question she can come up with.

And if you can get to an indoor range that lets you try out several handguns to fire, it's the best way to learn what fits and what hits.

And congrats, 2Alpha for your patience. My hubby was very patient with me and I eventually came around (don't give up on us, Guys).

Thanks for posting the link. My wife has owned a 25cal Berretta for over 40 years. She used to keep it close and knew how to use it when we lived in a different city. Now it collects dust in a drawer. I have been trying to get her to go to the indoor range, but; she keeps saying later. I would really like for her to go so she could try other more effective handguns. Any suggestions?

My wife got her permit recently. The town next to ours had a woman and daughter hacked up by some high school kids a few months ago. The mother did not make it but the 10 year old did. The dad was away on business. It was a random house to hit because of its location. I used to live down the road from that house. My wife got scared and asked me to help her get the permit. Gun sales jumped in our area with a lot of women getting concealed guns and permits.

If they're not shooters, just take the time to get them up to speed. And make 'em feel comfortable doing it.
Oh yeah, bite the bullet, take them to the mall for a bit after the range.
I don't mean 'mall' facetiously(sp) at all. I mean make it a fun day for them too. Not 8 hrs at the range and nothing for them.

My wife had a permit she let expire. Figures-she voted for Obama. Glad to hear the wife got the permit. I would not worry about the weight of the gun. If she ever has to use a gun, whatever she shoots will feel too light, anyway.
