Today was our rest day. We had been going to the gym, hiking and biking for the last 6 days.
We decided to rest today for our next gym visit tomorrow.
Our home phone has a "silent" mode.
My mother is turning 90 in January and she has one of those emergency buttons. My sister lives with her as her caretaker.
When we woke up, we saw that we had a message from 4am. It was from the emergency button people.
I called my sister and found that my mother had fallen on her way to the bathroom and my sister was having difficulties helping her up so she hit the button. In short order help was there and they took my mother to the emergency room to check her out.
They did bunches of tests including blood tests and a CT scan.
She was uninjured and healthy.
My Mother is 'bout 4' 11" and just a bit over 100 pounds so she didn't have far to go and didn't hit too hard.
My sister is healthy but skinny and an avid cyclist. She knows she is weak but figures that you don't really need much upper body strength to ride a bike.
This is from a bike tour. She's the skinny one in the blue sleeveless jersey, I'm the good looking tan muscular fellow in the red tank top with my wife.

My sister just put in for retirement so she can care for our mother better and have more free time for herself.
My wife was a home health care aid and knows some stuff about helping to move people with difficulties.
We're gonna visit next month.

Snubby, good to hear your mom doesn't seem to have anything seriously wrong with her. Could she have slipped, tripped or stumbled due to bad lighting? An area rug? Would some night lights and/or handrails make her path to and from the bathroom safer for her?

Pushing 90, though, is great. Mom's are precious. I know your sister and you will take good care of her.

Glad your mom is OK. Falls can be scary for the younger folks that are the helpers, too. Especially if the person might not be able to tell you if they hit their head or not. Your sister did the right thing calling for help. When my dad fell it was a scary thing, and with his advanced dementia, I didn't know what had happened. 911, ride to the hospital to be checked out. Same type of tests, same result. He was OK. Sure, it cost some money, but that's what insurance is for and the peace of mind was priceless. Again, glad everyone is OK.

She had a minor stroke a decade or so ago and is kinda "wobbly."
A hand rail on the hall wall sounds like a good idea.
My sister's very good at being bossy and pushy.

I'm glad you mom is OK. Those situations are always scary.

How far away are they?

PS: I looked at your picture but couldn't find the good looking guy. Did you post the wrong pic?
They're 'bout 100 miles or so, not all that far.
How about the goofy lookin' fellow with the bright yellow bike helmet?
