I just joined this S&W group, and I'm trying to identify the model of this S&W 32 Revolver I inherited from my Grandpa in Medford Oregon. He used it as a night watchman at Camp White in Rogue Valley during WW2. This gun is in perfect shape, so I'd also like to know what ammo it shoots. Serial # is 332831.

Hi There,

Welcome to the Forum!

Are you sure it is a .32? It looks like a .38 to me.

If I am correct, you have a S&W .38 CF Double Action, Fourth
Model. The 4th. model was made from 1895 to 1909. The serial
number range for the Forth Model is from 322701 to 539000.
Revolvers made before 382022 are considered pre-1898 Antiques.

Cheers!
Webb

I would retire it to the Gun Safe. Shooting a 130 year old revolver does not make sense to me.

That is a 38 Double Action, 4th Model made from 1895 to 1909. It is chambered for 38 S&W ammunition. Exterior shows most of it's original nickel has worn away. The visual difference between a 32 Double Action and 38 DA is that the 38 cylinder extends beyond the front f the trigger guard while the 32 DA cylinder is much shorter. To compare, this is my grandfather's 32 DA.

Your revolver is considered an antique, since antique cut-off for this model is serial number is below 382,022. BTW, if it is in good mechanical shape you can shoot it all day long!

Threads like this make me so mad. Somebody inherits a gun I lust after and they don't know what they got.

Seriously, that's a very nice gun and I'm glad you have an interest in shooting it. Guns were made to be shot.

I really want one of those myself. Glad you are going to be a good care taker for it and pass it down to your kiddos! Get some 38 S&W and let her bang away.
