"Great" guns that all of us might not be aware of

Are there any guns that you consider to be "great" but which might be relatively unknown -- even to the regular visitors to this sub-forum.

I will throw out two that I think meet the bill:

Remington 14 & 141..Pedersen's spiral magazine tube allowed pointed bullets......Today's lever actions could do the same thing with a spiral tube.

Harry Sanford's automag.....A bemouth gun ahead of its time.

Astra A75 was a neat little single stack DA/SA (decocker only in a very easy to reach lever). Big enough to shoot well, small enough to carry.

1911, 45ACP made by anybody. I don't care if you spent $400. or $4,000 on it, they're just fun to shoot. Anyone who likes to shoot should have one.

Astra Constable in 22 LR.

I bought it over a Walther PPK whatever and have been super impressed. Accurate, likes high speed ammo, all steel and can fit in a pocket. It's a shame they came here a long time ago and did not sell.

Now if I could find some of the equally unheard of and hard to find Astra Constable magazines in 22 LR so I could have a spare one I'd be happy.

Walther PPK/S 22 - a fun gun and easy to get one that's threaded for a suppressor - and everyone needs a suppressor! FUN STUFF!

Out of production great guns - Beretta Model 70 .22; a fabulous pistol. The Israelis still use them!

Another one - Star Model S .380 - basically a Colt Government .380 but OH MY GOODNESS! What a shooter! Finding one is next to impossible and I bet there is a premium for them.

Seriously, Shipmate? Browning Hi-Powers in 9mm are in their standard caliber and while they aren't as plentiful as a Glock 19 they're hardly guns that we're not aware of. I don't know if they're still manufactured but you do see them on all the auction sites, sometimes even in movies and TV and I'd be stunned to find many folks on the Forum who are unaware of them; they're beloved by so many people!

On the opposite side of the spectrum, however, a gun most folks are not aware of is the modern PSA Baby Browning in .25 ACP. Basically, a faithful reproduction of the original BB and the similar Colt described above.

Bersa .22 pistol, very accurate nice double and single action trigger, and great ergonomics. About the size of a Walther PPK but with a better feel, trigger, and about half the cost and I'm always wearing mine when I'm out hunting with a long gun.

Great guns

My favorite ( and relatively unknown) is the Polish VIS35 ( commonly referred to as the Radom )pistol. This is a Type III, "D" Block, 1943, with Nazi Waffenamts and correct holster. The last two issues of American Rifleman have had good articles on this great, relatively unknown, battle pistol

French model 1935A pistol. This is the gun that gave birth to Sig P series. Sig based their model P210 on this and the rest is history

Makarovs - Bulgarian and German - very accurate, nice finish, and built like tanks.

EAA Witness Match - VERY accurate, and out shot my full size HK45. A nice blue finish on the slide as well.

Agreed on the 1911s. Any new shooter I've taken to the range, I take a variety of guns. They all like and shoot the 1911 best.

Springfield P9C in 40 S&W. I specify caliber here, because it handles the snap of that round very well, the gun weight is nice, and it's very accurate. Same gun in 9mm, to me, was a bit heavy YMMV. I should add, these are CZ copies. Tanfoglio sent the parts to Springfield Armory. Springfield polished and fitted the parts, under the direction of Les Baer, who was running the shop at the time. The P9 was a popular competition platform at the time, but the compacts weren't as widely known. Some P9s and compacts were not gloss blue finish, but those that were came out very nice.

RIA 1911 in 9mm. Another good bang for the buck and very good accuracy.

Anschutz Exemplar - this is a 22lr silhouette shooter with a 10"or 14" barrel that will outshoot most rifles.
