Great Military minds at work...PMags banned. Now unbanned!! LOL

This strikes me as either a way under-analyzed decision or a way over-analyzed one; either approach can get you a bad answer. With enough noise, this policy is capable of being refined. I won't say reversed, because my impression is that military services are not in the business of acknowledging error.

Left hand, meet right hand.

Right way, wrong way, Army way.

TACOM suffers from "not-invented here". Also probably got a contractor who isn't getting any orders screaming and so is the congressman. And before anyone says anything NavSea is just as bad.

We have a winner :D Some contractor was whining and ran it up the flag pole ........... Save us all from Big Government, and Big Business.

I think its time to keep one eye on ebay for cheap pmags.

I have a suspicion that you are very correct, it will be a big score for me, all of my 30's except the pmag that came with my rifle are the new style military, I dont use them often. I mostly use my 20's 1 milsurp and 3 thermolds. but would love to have some more PMags!!! :)

This was being discussed on Calguns.net and a few folks said that PMags are just an unfortunate casualty. And that the Army is banning poly mags in general because soldiers were buying and using any ol' poly mag in the field and suffering failures.

Which led others to comment that if that is the case then the Army should publish and approved for use list of poly mags...but we all know how slow the wheels of gov't work in these kinds of matters.

Actually with the government's track record they will most likely destroy all of said Pmag's. Can't let the civilian's have them at any cost.

Unfortunately, that does sound about right....Throw away perfectly good materials due to a knee jerk reaction.

I wonder what the per/unit cost difference is between a Pmag and an issued aluminum mag? I would bet the aluminum mags are cheaper.

Remember, cost cuts in important areas such as the military are a reality. The current administration needs to fund the feel-good free money projects for the free-loader society they are trying to develop. This reallocation of funds will cut deep into those "pesky" expenditures such as the defense budget.

Just a thought...

The new Pmag is probably for the new Marine rifle.

THIS.:( I think the going rate for a bulk buy on the USGI mags runs about $3 a mag. Pmags run about $6 in bulk.
But what a cluster-cluck. There are a LOT of rifles that were issued with Pmags, and so herein lies the issue: Do you remove ALL Pmags from service? Do you leave those in the loop alone, and only cycle them out and replace with USGI units?
If you leave them in....... people WILL bring more of them in, because they are very good and durable as hell.

I can tell you one thing: I have 3 friends who get to choose their own equipment in their MOS...... and they absolutely love the Pmags I send them. No one is about to tell them to take the other stuff if they do not want it.

Either way, I am GTG......got enough aluminum to smelt it down and make a couple of beer kegs. Got enough plastic to melt down and rebuild Pamela Anderson from scratch!!!:D

Some time ago the HK M-16 magazine was all the rage, everyone wanted them. Civilians paid up to 60.00 or more for the HK mags. The military Special Forces used a lot of them. After some time the bad reports started to surface. After extended use the springs would weaken and they could not buy replacement springs. The feed lips were easily dented and damaged. Just because something is hot this year doesn't mean it will be hot next.

Which brings to mind the Mk11. The KAC rifle works... eh... fairly well with the KAC mags. But it is Stoner-cold reliable with Pmags. Damn near every Mk11 gets Pmags.

The Army in its infinite wisdom should have conducted tests on P-Mags long ago. Instead the troops cannot use an asset they feel comfortable with. Glad I retired.

This may explain the cases of 30 round PMags (with and without windows) that I saw for sale at a LGS. Price was 14.95 per and 16.95 per with window.

I think I really would have prefered a mag that didnt clank in the jungle. I always hated that when your trying to be quiet and stealthy and you pull a mag out of a pouch and it made noise that plastic wouldnt make.
