Grip 'shadow' on Nickel

My nickel plated Model 58 has always had the magna grips on it. The left half of the new after market grips I'm installing (Ahrends Retro Combat) have a speed loader cutout, and don't cover the same area the magnas did. There is a 'shadow' on the nickel where the magnas ended that is now visible. Has anyone had success cleaning this? I tried Flitz, but it doesn't seem to remove it. Thanks!

Mike,

I have had good results with multiple, light "Flitzings". Followed by Renaissance wax. You just wanna go slow, with light pressure, turn the soft cloth often.

I have used "Maas" with great success on nickel and been able to remove the same shadow you speak of.
As PH-2 stated, it is sometimes accomplished with multiple applications.
*NOTE* all of these polishes are abbrasive - you need to be careful not to be too aggressive

I can tell you it will take more than one or two "polishings". I have had mixed results in removing that "shadow" as you call it. It just takes time and patience and then a little more time. Don't give up, just be careful and do not try and rush the process.

Do you have any before and after pics? I have the same issue on several nickle Smiths. The stain looks like oil that was trapped under the grips for decades.

I wish I could show you, but never thought to do any "comparo" pics. I'll put it on the agenda for the next nickel gun, all of my current examples have been polished to remove the offending discoloration.

It is a product name of a metal polishing cream - I bought a tube years ago at Walmart in the housewares Dept.
A small tube will last a long time and works great.
