would like to take the grips off my new 586 and put them away to save them. would like to stay away from rubber but want some thing with finger groves. if rubber will have to be able to remove them easy so I can clean it good. thanks for any idea's.

Dave, check out Brownell's, I recently picked up a real nice set of just what you described for one of my model 19s that also fit my 586. They're Retro Combat Grips for K or L frames. Send me an email address and I'll send some pictures and more info. I have a problem trying to post pictures on the forum.

I recommend you consider VZ grips. They come in two types of surfaces - grippy (320S) and grippier ("Tactical Diamonds"). I black ones on a Mdl 65-5 and "black cherry" on a Mdl 10-10, and I like the positive control as well as the good looks.

You just have to look around grooved and combat grips are there along with secret service types as well......

Take it with you to the next gunshow. Usually at the bigger shows there is someone selling gun stocks. I found a really nice set of target stocks for my 586-3. I also did not like the rubber that it came with. I think i paid somewhere around $60 dollars for the set.

Another vote for Altamont.

Here's my 586 no-dash with a set of them.

These were quite reasonable on ebay. Pachmayr Renegade. They are for K/L round butt. Quite comfy to me. I think they were around $35 (new) when purchased. Bob

Spegel grips

Although his lead times are way out due to popularity, you can't beat Craig Spegel's grips.

Here are a few examples on L frames.
