Guess I Won't Buy a Car Until Oct. 15

My Taurus died late last year, and I ended up with a Volkswagen Taos that I'm very happy with. I looked at the Maverick and wanted it, but the Taos gets better fuel economy and is more practical. I very much Bought before the tariffs started hitting, but I wish I could've held off another year..

At the end of the day, the Maverick just didn't give me the perception of long-term quality; it looks just like every other Ford I've ever driven and felt like it inside. Dumb things like the paint on the bottom of the bed just weren't done – it looked like a budget economy car wearing a $38,000 price tag.

I'd still get a Volkswagen today if I had to get another car, but the other one that would give me pause and was a very strong contender was the new model Nissan frontier.

If you haven't already and can, buy the extended warranty on the Taos. The day the warranty expires, trade it in. VWs are not horribly unreliable, but they are horribly expensive to fix if not in warranty.

The same advice applies to any Jeep vehicle.

Oh, the Cuck is loaded up with warranties. It's a Jetta powertrain in a compact SUV body…a car and a truck…the Cuck!

I'm averaging 38mpg, have around 9000 miles on it, and am very satisfied. It's moved a decent-sized safe and plenty of household stuff with the rear seats down.

Now as far as "impressive" efficiency goes…gotta give it to my wife's Jetta. Gas 1.4L turbo, thing absolutely sprints through West Texas in the summer with ice-cold A/C, 95mph and 42mpg; oil temps 235ish in the day.

We'll see what happens. The Constitution says that tariffs are the responsibility of Congress, but the Congress has passed several different laws -- going back as far as 1934 -- that hand that responsibility, and authority, over to the President in a variety of situations. It will be up to the Supreme Court to decide if any of those various situations apply in today's world.

I just bought a 2025 Hyundai Elantra 2 weeks ago. My last car a 2007 Accent GL had a leaky gas tank after 18.5 years and over 117600 miles.
It was a good little car. My new Hyundai even though bigger gets even better gas mileage! I tend to keep my cars a long time.

I saw a Rolls Royce Spectre on the freeway a few months ago. I had to look it up when I got home and discovered It's an EV with suicide doors and a range of up to 264 miles. They can top $400,000 before tariffs.

Not for me, but the owner obviously didn't worry about getting a speeding ticket. He disappeared in a flash and I was going 75-80!

Not for me either, at its price point and range, but that is a beautiful car.

Ahh! Sounds like he went to "Warp Speed". I've done that on my 84 Aspencade on occasion in the past.

My grandfather had a Lincoln with suicide doors back in the 60's. Kinda cool, but they called 'em that for a reason. I'm surprised RR brought it back.

I also don't understand a battery operated vehicle that's worth as much as a nice home.

I don't know who this kid is, but daddy obviously has money!
