Gun Safe Shelf Liner

Anyone have any experience using Duck Brand non adhesive PVC coated polyester coated shelf liner? It would seem that the PVC coating on the polyester material would keep it from absorbing moister which could cause rust on firearms.

If no experience using that shelf liner, what do you use and why? Thanks in advance for your advice.

The reason for the question is that I got the safe used and it only has one shelf constructed from presswood with no liner on it. I'm going to cut at least a couple more shelves, probably from the same material. The safe is inside the house, so climate controlled? Just didn't want to introduce anything into it that would potentially restrain what moisture there might be in the house over time. Perhaps I'm fretting over and non existent problem.

My safe's shelves are carpeted, and without a problem. The Rust issue isn't the shelf covering, it is the overall humidity! Dry the air and forget the gimmick.

I use the stock shelf covering that comes with the safe and a dehumidifier rod. Got my first safe in 1980s so far so good.

My safe is in the cellar and I have a dehumidifier that turns it self on and off by a built in humidistat! Have the drain plumbed right to a floor drain.

I made a couple extra shelves and use Bore Store cleaning mats.

They are made from the same silicon grey soft material and have a backing like a cleaning mat

Also if you have the safe rails that take clips to hold up the shelf let me know. When I added my shelves Liberty sent me a bunch.

I turned one of my safes to shelves only.

I used plywood cut to size and covered them in the same grey felt as the original inside. I went with plywood over press board as the distance grew larger with the vertical insert. I had concerns the press board might bow with the wider distance and added weight.

Been working wonderfully.

I also run a goldenrod and have a thermometer-hydrometer for added monitoring.

If your shelves will be over 24 inches I would consider plywood.

I put an extra shelf in one of my little safes. Added carpet and a layer of S&W paper, just because I had it. Did the same to the "secret" drawer in an old piece of furniture I have.

I got the highest capacity home dehumidifier I could find.
