What you appear to have is 1950 K-22 Combat Masterpiece - "Pre Model 18". The 4" K-frames were developed to provide a handier size pistol than the 6" versions. The .22 was to provide a more cost effective practise round.

The mat finish happened at several times, I am not sure why or when. But if the gun was treated carefully this might be the original finish.

Pictures could help a lot. But you did get a very good deal, especially in today's climate of increased prices.

I bought Rick's revolver ...

Rick and I were sharing a table at the gun show and he lucked out finding that 1950 S&W Combat Masterpiece. He took pity on me and sold it to me today. I have two pictures but I don't know how to post and a quick look at the site and I did not find any help. If someone will post them, I will email them to you. I am off to bed soon, so might not see reply until tomorrow.

K 88269 is a fairly early one,
Does it have a Patridge front site on a short ramp or a Baughman on a long ramp ?
