Found this at the local gun show. Outside shows wear/not treated well. Inside is perfect. Asking was $350.00, and I paid $300 OTD. Will use it as a truck gun or woods carry piece, maybe even a gun to take on trips.

$300 would have been a fair price pre-pandemic/panic. I think you did good on snagging a shooter grade Model 39-2.

Nice find, I wish I could stumble on one under $500.

Nice find at a surprising price. A word of advice though, if you want extra mags for it, grab them while you can. The prices have gone off the rails lately. I found one guy on GB selling them for prices in the low $30s range (plus shipping) and have bought a few to bolster my supply for my 39-2 and 639 Franken-Smith. I fear they won't get cheaper, and the aftermarket examples have a horrible reputation. :(

Love those grips... they look super considering the wear on the blued surfaces. It's hard to beat the look of blued metal and checkered walnut.

Extra Mags

Went to the LGS and found a couple in their S&W bin. Rusty with no real finish left on them. They wanted $25 a piece for them. I passed. I have a friend that has several of them spare. He said he will give me one. Did not want to impose on him, but after my trip to the LGS, I asked if the offer was still available. It was.

What kind of followers did the rusty mags @ the LGS have? Regardless, if factory, I'd be willing to offer about that $25 or a little more for the pair or perhaps a little more... I have one somebody sent to Mahovsky for their Metalloy finish and if I were going to refinish one or two more, I'd think about doing that. Of course if they were the early flat follower type, I might have to "restore" them to the original type finish.

The followers were black plastic in what I believe is called an X configuration. They were wanting $25 a piece for them. I was just going to clean them up and maybe Oxpho Blue them. After 25 years in the Corps, I don't really care what they look like, just as long as they function properly each and evry time.

The X follower would be steel and is the type supplied with most Model 39 and early production 39-2 pistols. The black plastic follower was introduced shortly after 39-2 production began.

Hello AJ, thanks. I know enough to get me in trouble. As far as
enlightening anyone, wish I could. Im still a student not a professor.
Go to Search and type in "Seductive Power..." and read five pages of Posts.

Took the 39 to the range this morning. It went bang with every round it was fed. Only one failure to extract. Tried it with 147 grain cast Round Nosed and a 147 grain truncated I had loaded the 147 Truncated cases with 3.5 grains of Bullseye and these shot to center mass with a 6 o'clock hold. The 147 Round Nosed loaded with 2.8 grains of Bullseye, shot high with a 6 o'clock hold, so I moved to the 8 ring and used that as my aimpoint. This was at 15 yards in the Off-Hand position.
