Gun terms you HATE

SETTLED, I THINK NOT.

I disagree. So now this is an argument that can only be settled by a reputable third party. They all support the position that "clip" is the proper term. It has become common usage. The very fact that you know what people really mean when they use the term pretty much proves the point.

I do however, totally agree with "Better to keep your mouth closed & let everyone think you are a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."

A third party will just add another opinion to the mix. Without knowing the context, or how it's used in a sentence a clip could be a news/movie, paper, chip clip and a magazine something you read. For me a clip is used to fill a magazine.

Another term coming into use with the media is "high Caliber," in describing a firearm. I won't even attempt to define it for them.

That one kinda bothers me. Last Fri? I was at Academy buying a brick of .22-and a new and young clerk was """"""""""helping"""""""""" another customer. That kid referred the .22 short rounds-as "high caliber."

He then came over to me after I almost exploded with uncontrolable laughter--then I pointed to a brick of Federal--which has 525 rounds in it. The kid said all they can sell is 500 rounds. I said-if I buy the box at YOUR price since your taking ammo out of it and then I should get $5 bucks knocked off its price? I was being facetious of course knowing ill be getting the 525. The kid goes to a nearby co-worker to ask how much a discount ill be getting if he opens the brick and takes 25 rounds out of it. The nearby customers began to laugh-the coworker rolled his eyes and said the 25 "extra" rounds are part of the bricks price and that nobody would be fired if they sold a box that had more than 500 rounds in it. I dont know how long that boy will make it at the gun counter?

Does a Savage 99C use a clip or a magazine. I always thought the "C" designation was for clip.

Aren't plastics polymers, or are polymers plastics?...

Are the mainspring housing in lesser expensive 1911 polymer or plastic?

I use the term plastic 'cause I don't like 'em, and I am trying to add a note of cheapness to them.

I hate the use of the terms "plastic" or "tupperware" to describe polymer pistols. [...]
I do not intend disrespect Chief but plastic is the more specific and thus better word. The sugar that sweetens our food is a polymer but not a plastic. Out of context "Polymer" does not distinguish between a Glock frame and those 2X4 fir studs in your walls which are are sugars.

Here's an offer. You own up and call your Glock what it is and I won't call it Tupperware.

In all seriousness, it's the piece of equipment that saved my life in combat. Cheers.

I say to Chrome - Google- 'what is a Glock Frame made of?'

The Glock's frame, magazine body, and several other components are made from a high-strength nylon-based polymer invented by Gaston Glock, called Polymer 2. This plastic was specially formulated to provide increased durability and is more resilient than carbon steel and most steel alloys.

I'll settle for nylon. Some of my many Rugers are nylon-"glass" - filled.[emoji1]

I've never handled the "C" model, but from my research some of the C models had a detachable box magazine. I've only had experience with the rotary magazine on the 99.

If it has a follower and a spring, that makes it a magazine because it holds and feeds the cartridges. This is different from a Garand en bloc clip which merely holds the cartridges and lets a separate mechanism feed them upward.

On the flip side, I have never been bothered by the term "pencil barrel" although it sends some folks into fits. Maybe it's flippant or a little too cute but how is it really any worse than "bull barrel" which seems to bother no one?

I see the factory uses bull barrel, but I have never seen pencil barrel......
