I've spent a fair amount of time thinking about gun control, and have come to the conclusion that it boils down to trust. For a goverment to allow it's citizens to own firearms, it must trust the majority of it's citizens. Without trust, both sides will fail in any agreement on the ownership of firearms. Those who say the great unwashed masses cannot be trusted with firearms, don't trust the people who own them not to abuse that right and responsibility.

On the other side, the people who have guns have to trust the goverment not to abuse their power and believe gun ownership is a check on the possible abuse of that power.

So here we are, two side's that do not trust each other. A chasm that grows wider each day, egged on by a media that has for the most part chosen one side, as a result, we no longer trust the media, and the media does not trust us. Throw in social media with both sides attacking each other and the divide continues to grow.

So again, here we are, a nation divided and lacking in trust with no end in site, and no hope of bridging that divide. Both side's feel they must win this fight, and if one side or the other wins, bitter feeling will linger and divide us that much more.

In the past, I thought as a country we had a basic trust of our Goverment and fellow citizens, now that trust is broken in my opinion. I don't see how this can end well, what say you....

I agree. I think there is a way to fix our broken nation: We need the media to come together and report the news, both sides of the story. A law should be enacted forbidding any media company, outlet etc from donating to any political party, foundation or participant . I think that's our real problem. The social media stuff is just a lot of blow hards running their yaps. The Mainstream Media needs an enema

Sad to say, I think you're spot on. While there are some news outlets that are reporting with a neutral bias, they are few and far between. You would think that they'd be setting an example for the big networks, but it remains to be seen.

At this point, our best option is to keep a cool head and obtain our news from as many unbiased sources as possible and avoid the ones who have an agenda and are never going to change.
