Something To Consider

A post office is federal and you cannot legally carry in a federal building. Unfortunately federal laws and regulations are believed to supercede state laws in our courts.

First, I am NOT a lawyer so this is only MY opinion;
It sure looks like subsection (d)(3) would cover the lawful concealed carry by those licensed to do so within their own State (and in reciprocal agreement States). Hmm.... :confused:

QUESTION: Does anyone on this forum have any direct experience/knowledge of this occurring?

18 U.S. Code § 930 - Possession of firearms and dangerous weapons in Federal facilities

(a) Except as provided in subsection (d), whoever knowingly possesses or causes to be present a firearm or other dangerous weapon in a Federal facility (other than a Federal court facility), or attempts to do so, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 1 year, or both.

......[snip].....
(d) Subsection (a) shall not apply to—
(1) the lawful performance of official duties by an officer, agent, or employee of the United States, a State, or a political subdivision thereof, who is authorized by law to engage in or supervise the prevention, detection, investigation, or prosecution of any violation of law;
(2) the possession of a firearm or other dangerous weapon by a Federal official or a member of the Armed Forces if such possession is authorized by law; or
(3) the lawful carrying of firearms or other dangerous weapons in a Federal facility incident to hunting or other lawful purposes.:eek::eek::eek:
...[snip]...

It sure would be nice if automakers could bestir themselves and put seriously secure locking vaults in their products. But I guess their imagination only extends to cupholders and such.

My restored '72 Jeep CJ has a nice built-in compartment under the passenger seat. When I rebuilt it I put in a couple of cylinder locks to keep it closed. Not exactly rocket science or Fort Knox, but better than a plastic "glove" box.

Not saying what I do with my own guns or vehicles, but maybe it's best to just leave some extra mags in the car and DADT and fly low at all times and all places.

It's a reasonable post. Disagreeing with it is one thing, but if your hyperbolic assessment is sincere, this must be the first thing you have ever read online...ever. ;)

Instead of name calling, how about a reasoned counterargument?

Well, here's the thing. You can say what you want, I can say what I want as long as it is civilized and in good taste according to the rules of this forum. I don't have to engage you, explain to you, justify my remarks or reconcile my opinion. There was no NAME CALLING. Where in my post did I call anyone A NAME? I have no further remarks to make on this subject to you and I do not depart from my remarks made in the post you chose to criticize. I regret I did not visit the FORUM sooner to respond to your reply. I do not agree with the OP and that's the extent of my response.

I must've been offline the day that calling a fellow member's considered opinion "ridiculous BS" became civil and in good taste, and was no longer deemed name calling whether directed at him or just his thoughts.

And of course you don't have to provide thoughtful explanations for your disagreement -- it's every bit your right to take pot shots at a distance and hightail it.
